The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region

The "département de Vaucluse" is the interior of Provence. The boundaries of the Vaucluse are defined by the valley of the Rhône in the west, which provides irrigation for this land of fruit vegetables and reputed vinyards.

The eastern boundaries are sculpted out of the Alps and the Mount Ventoux; while in the south one finds the Luberon, between Cavaillon to Pertuis, which follows along the Durance River and between Rustrel to Grambois against the 'Alpes de Haute Provence'.

The hilltop villages in this part are very well-known for being extremely charming.

Don't miss Avignon (the papal city) and an excursion to Camargue.

Marseille is European capital of Culture 2013. All throughout this year, hundreds of cultural and artistic events will be staged across the Provence region, from Arles to Aix-en-Provence and Toulon.
