The Costa Brava/Catalonia/Barcelona region

The Costa Brava stretches from Blanes, 60 km (37 mi) northeast of Barcelona, to the French border.
The L'Escala / Puig Sec area
L'Escala is a municipality in the comarca of the Alt Empordà in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the Costa Brava, located between the southern end of the Gulf of Roses and Cala (bay) Montgó. It is an important fishing port and tourist centre, and has a festival dedicated to its famous anchovies. The GE-513 road runs inland from the town.
The Alfolí de la Sal, also known as the Pòsit Vell, is a seventeenth century warehouse formerly used to store the salt necessary to preserve fish landed at the port: it is now a protected historic-artistic monument. The ruins of Empúries are located on the territory of the municipality, with Phoenician and Roman remains dating from 580 BC.
L'Escala is the village of Víctor Català (pseudonym of Caterina Albert, 1869-1966) a famous novel writer.

We stayed here is July 2012, we are a family of 5 and we all had a really great holiday. The apartment is spacious and clean with everything you could need from kitchen appliances, games, bedding and blankets, BBQ tools to TV and game console. As stated there is a very efficient AirCon system and WIFI. The shared pool and BBQ area are well maintained. The apartment is situated at the back of the town so a car is useful for getting around, we didn't find a bakery within walking distance but there is within a short car journey. I would enthusiastically recommend this accommodation. The owners are so very friendly and easy to deal with. I can see we will be returning next year to escape the british 'summer'. |
