The Costa Brava/Catalonia/Barcelona region
Catalunya is a region in nothern spain just south of the French boarder. The Costa Brava runs along the coast of this region with small and large coastal resorts all along. L'Escala is situated in the province of Girona. The capital of Girona offers a wide range of architecture and culture to investigate including the famous Arabic baths and Jewish quarter. The town of Figueras is only 25 mins away, famous for Salvador Dali, housing the museum of his works in the town centre.
The area enjoys a warm, gentle, Mediterranean climate, characterised by hot, dry summers and moderate winters, which explains why the beaches are a major part of the area´s attraction.
The area surrounding L'Escala provides ample opportunity for cycling, walking, visits to mountain areas or just relaxing.
Catalonia has two official languages, Catalan and Spanish. Most of the local population habitually speak Catalan, and all the population understand and can express themselves perfectly well in Spanish.
The L'Escala / Camp De Pilans area
L'Escala town has a wide selection of restaurants to suit all tastes, with a traditional spanish feel. It is a former fishing village which is famous for the locally caught anchovies still sold today. Surrounded by beautiful blue flag beaches, with crystal clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
A smaller holiday resort with limited hotels, more an area of private apartments and villas available for rent all year round.
Camp dels pillans is only a short walk from L'Escala centre and is close to the walkway along the beaches of St.Marti, allowing easy access to many beaches with different facilities to suit your tastes.

L'Escala is easy to get to from all over Europe, using plane, train or car.
Fly to Girona airport only 45 mins away, Barcelona 1 hour 45 mins and Perpignan about 1 hour 15mins.
L'Escala is only 20 mins away once you take exit 5 on the AP-7 motorway.
Driving from Uk to L'Escala takes an average of 13hrs from Calais.
The closest local train station is Flaça about 20 mins away, which is served well by trains from Barcelona and the french border, however larger stations are situated in Figueras and Girona which have a more frequent services.

The apartment is located adjacent to a main roundabout, which at first seems to be away from town and the beaches, however, we soon discovered that once we'd crossed the road by the roundabout, the beautiful beaches of L'escala were just a leisurely 10 minute walk away at most. The town itself is a similar distance and the the location of the apartment becomes a real bonus at the end of the day, allowing us that short distance away from the beaches and the town at the end of each evening. The apartment is very well presented, very tastefully furnished and extremely well maintained. The balcony faces the sunny side of the building, overlooking an equally well maintained outside swimming pool and lawn. There's a reasonably well stocked LIDL store just 5 minutes walk from the apartment and a larger super-store another 5 minutes away. The apartments were relatively peaceful in the evenings allowing us to enjoy the balcony area and relax at the end of each day. Barcelona is a 95 minute Express train journey away; the nearest station being at Flaca', a 15-20 minute taxi ride from L'escala.
We had a great week in this apartment and in the area of L'escala itself and I would recommend this as a holiday destination

This was our third time at the apartment which is spacious and well equipped and furnished. The apartment block and pool are also very clean and quiet. Lovely sunny balcony and parking included.
Some lovely beaches within walking distance and plenty of restaurants. Nearby town of L'escala and village of Saint Marti both within walking distance and nice atmosphere in the evenings.
Would go again. Lots to do and see in the wider area also.

I was joined by 4 fellow golfers and we stayed at Athenea 1 for 4 days. After a short trip from the airport it was easy to find the accommodation. They say that first impressions count. Well this is certainly true as a lot of thought had obviously gone into the layout of the apartments, the grounds and the centrally located swimming pool. The apartment was spacious, contemporary and very clean, which made it very relaxing. We played golf at Emporda, which has two fabulous golf courses. We were a pleasant walk from the town and beach and had no trouble finding decent places to eat. The food and wine was excellent as were the people. A very enjoyable break.
