The Costa Dorada/Tarragona region

The Costa Dorada, the Golden Coast, is part of Tarragona Province in Catalunya, which spans 20 towns along 220 kilometres of Mediterranean shoreline.

TARRAGONA - to the north is a world heritage site having a superb Roman Amphitheatre as well as a preserved medieval city centre and cathedral. which is highlighted at night when its historic buildings are floodlit. It has a well-preserved Roman aqueduct and amphitheatre, a museum of millstones, and the sort of macabre exhibits kids will love at the Necropolis Museum of Sarcophagi and Gravestones.

SITGES, the coast's largest resort, is a bustling and cosmopolitan tourist resort that has retained some of its original charm in its Old Town. Although it includes many sandy beaches, like Costa Brava it also offers quieter coves on the rockier shores.

CAMBRILS & SALOU - both vibrant tourist areas are just half-an-hour away.

PORT AVENTURA theme park, now called Universal Mediterranea, remains a popular family attraction with entertainment for all ages. The park, a 10-minute drive from the resort of Salou, is divided into five sections Far West, the Mediterranean, Mexico, China and Polynesia. Highlights include the Dragon Khan eight-loop roller coaster, the spectacular Templo del Fuego live show with fire and water effects and the latest ride, Hurakan Kondor, if you'd like to experience zero gravity.
In 2002 Costa Caribe, the Caribbean-themed water park opened.

BARCELONA - recently named the 'European City of Culture' with its famous Gaudi landmarks, the 'Sagrada Familia' and 'Parc Guell', is easily accessed by car or by an inexpensive and convenient breath-taking coastal train journey using the Catalunya express which stops at L'Ametlla de Mar.

The EBRO DELTA is a spectacular national park with many species of water birds and the river is famous for its fish.

TORTOSA - head inland and visit this pretty market town on the river with it's excellent shopping facilities.

OROPESA & CABANES - MARINA D'OR - If you want to spoil yourself, it's worth a visit to this area just 50 minutes south of L'Ametlla de Mar, where you can visit the largest sea-water spa in Europe. Take advantage of the benefits of sea water as a source of beauty, health and well-being, in any of the Spa Zones. The team of specialists can give you information about the different spa programs specially designed for specific needs.

VALENCIA - the city of the future with its amazing architecturally designed futuristic science park 'L'Oceanographic', surrounded by water, with an amazing walk-through aquarium is definitely not to be missed. This makes a brilliant day out for families. This city, like Barcelona can be reached by road or by rail. Valencia is now the home of the America's Cup Sailing Race and the home of the Spanish Grand Prix.

EVENTS, MUSEUMS & WALKS

L'AMETLLA DE MAR, our local fishing village, is five minutes away and boasts a wealth of fine restaurants and lively bars. According to the experts, the fish caught in the waters around L'Ametlla has a special flavour. The harvest from this area is the essence of local cuisine.
Here you'll also find a library, numerous shops, schools, a post office, a medical centre, an indoor market every day selling fruit & vegetables and an outdoor market every Monday and Thursday.

L'Ametlla hosts many different events and festivals throughout the year.

CORPUS CHRISTI FLORAL STREET CARPETS
A holiday that is on Corpus Christi (on a Saturday in June to be determined). The residents in L'Ametlla make a 1km long street carpet of flowers and petals. The varied designs are absolutely amazing. The spectacular nature of the shapes and colours as well as the imagination that goes into the designs have made this a popular event visited by many people. This and other interesting events can be viewed on the L'Ametlla de Mar website.

The Museum of Popular Ceramics in Sant Jordi d' Alfama, L'Ametlla de Mar (Baix Ebre) was opened on 5th May 2001. It originated, however, in 1992 when the Marti-Castro Foundation was constituted.
The ceramic collection, made up of ceramics from all over the Iberian peninsula, is consdiered to be the largest collection of its kind in Europe. There are about 4,500 permanent exhibits which are on various circuits in the museum. These are the uses of ceramics, places where ceramics are made, the different forms of urns and the processes and techniques used related to ceramics. There are also some temporary exhibition rooms (at the moment they are dedicated to Portuguese ceramics and urns from all over the Iberian peninsula). There is also an audio-visual room, a classroom and a shop.

WALKS or BICYCLE RIDES
'Per camins de moros i cristians' (The Moors and Christians Route). From L'Ametlla de Mar to l'Almadrava - 12 km along the coast coinciding with the GR-92. Recommended on foot, moderate effort, drop of 120m to sea level.

'The Countryside and Fishermen's Waters.' From L'Ametlla de Mar to Puig Moltó. 8.6km long, inland. The drop to sea level is 250m and the effort moderate to difficult. Recommended by bicycle.

'Where the Pine Trees Fall In Love With The Sea'. From L'Ametlla de Mar to la Cala de l'Àliga along the coast following the GR-92. 9.4 km long and the effort moderate. Recommended on foot.

BARCELONA, GIRONA, VALENCIA & ZARAGOZA are between one & two & a half hours drive.

Air Travel to the area can be booked online with Ryanair or Easyjet.
REUS is the nearest airport to the villa.
Ryanair currently fly from Dublin, Glasgow (Prestwick), Luton, Liverpool and Stansted airports as well as Frankfurt(Hahn) direct to REUS airport.
Easyjet flies to Barcelona(El Prat).

CAR HIRE - We recommend Carjet or Solmar.
Both of the above car rental companies are pay-on-arrival at Reus.

You'll find Villa Sierra on the stretch of coastline almost mid-way between Barcelona & Valencia, just 3kms from the motorway [AP7] and conveniently situated HALF-AN-HOUR away from REUS AIRPORT.
