A spacious, seven bedroomed, manoir surrounded by panoramic views of the rolling Normandy countryside. La Poterie is situated on the edge of the delightful village of Saint Evroult Notre Dame du Bois with its boating lake, restaurants, and ancient Abbey ruins. A secluded location with wonderful views, it has excellent local restaurants and catering available on site.
Set midway between Rouen and Le Mans, this Maison Maitre has good local amenities but charming, unspoilt, villages and towns are also within easy reach. La Poterie sits in approximately one acre of grounds and benefits from having no immediate neighbours; it is still, however, conveniently located for access to the local boulangerie in the mornings! The Normandy / Eure region
- St Evroult Notre Dame du Bois is the charming local village on the edge of a forest. In the heart of the Orne, Basse Normandie, it features a large boating lake, ancient Abbey ruins, a campsite with mini-golf, and mini-supermarket with a great boulangerie (Viveco). It also has an fantastic restaurant and one further café/restaurant which offer excellent, good value, food. In 1998 Luc Besson shot scenes for Joan of Arc in the village using the atmospheric abbey ruins as its backdrop. Besson is said to have fallen in love with the area whilst filming and subsequently purchased a chateau in the nearby village of Trinitie des Laitiers. Other famous neighbours include Louis Vuitton.
The Viveco shop in the village sells a wide range of provisions plus baguettes, pastries, rustic bread, croissants and cakes. The local newspaper 'Le Reveil', who regularly report what’s happening in the area, can also be purchased here. The nearby village of Ferte Fresnel has a range of shops including a Viveco, butchers, pharmacy and bank, as well as a boulangerie selling delicious bread, cakes and pastries. You can enjoy lunch or a drink in the café/restaurant, Le Lac des Cygnes, opposite the lake in St Evroult; if you’re interested in having dinner, you are advised to make a reservation in advance. The village also boasts a new restaurant, Le Relais d’Abbaye, serving set and à la carte menus for lunch and dinner. They do particularly good value set menus for lunch including wine and coffee for 10 Euros.
L Aigle area
The nearby village of La Ferte Fresnel has the locally renowned 'La Paradis' hotel/restaurant, popular with local people every night of the week and where excellent meals can be enjoyed at a fraction of the equivalent English price. For a very special meal out, 'La Marigotiere' in nearby Notre Dame du Hamel serves fabulous à la carte food in a riverside location. St Evroult and the neighbouring villages are also lucky enough to enjoy the services of a pizza van where high quality but very reasonably priced pizzas can be conveniently ordered over the phone and then collected from the van in the village. There are also several restaurants and takeaways in the nearby towns of L’Aigle and Gacé. L’Aigle also offers two decent hypermarkets whilst Gacé has a smaller supermarket. Petrol stations are located in Ferte Fresnel, Monnai, Gacé, and L’Aigle. The nearest train station is located in L’Aigle and has an excellent service into Paris and other parts of the region.
- The nearest Tourist Information Centre <LINK http://www.paysdelaigle.com/>http://www.paysdelaigle.com</LINK> is located in the historic quarter of L'Aigle where leaflets and information are available on all the area's attractions. Throughout the year a range of events take place including food festivals, local fetes, night markets, and music festivals. In L'Aigle itself, the 3rd largest market in France takes place every Tuesday morning. Here you can explore stalls with clothes and gifts on offer, in addition to a wide range of local produce including locally produced pink garlic, honey, cheese, ham, cider etc.
- The French National Stud at Haras du Pin is located a similar distance away and is worth a visit for its grand architecture, history, and a chance to see the free horse processions and promenades which take place on Thursdays.
- The village of Camembert and its museum are nearby. It's also easy to visit the wonderful beaches at Deauville and Trouville for the day.
- For great nightlife, shopping, restaurants, and architecture visit Rouen or Paris - both just an hour a way.
- Other attractions include a Zoo near Lisieux (only 40 minutes drive away), karting, a flying school - in fact pretty much anything you might want to do on holiday! We have plenty of information at the house on these and many other local attractions.

Further details indoors: Ground Floor: You enter the house through double doors into a large, bright hallway. Off this, the modern kitchen features a central island unit with a five burner hob. There's also a larder fridge, dishwasher, and plenty of space to socialise while preparing delicious french cuisine. The panelled dining room seats 14, providing a bright and airy room for breakfast, and an atmospheric setting with solid oak furniture, log fire, an ornate ceiling and a HiFi for lingering dinners. The spacious lounge has a french enamel wood burner as its focus with modern three seater sofas, a library of books and DVDs, and a TV, DVD and CD player for entertaining all the family.
First Floor: Ascending the beautifully spiralled oak staircase, you'll be struck by the light on the first landing reflected off the original parquet flooring. There are two double bedrooms, one twin room and a bathroom on this level, all enjoying double aspect views. The bath is positioned to make the most of these. All the bedrooms in the house are spacious and tastefully furnished with original wooden parquet floors, white embroidered bed linen, and double-aspect views over the surrounding countryside. All have sufficient space for a cot too, if necessary.
Second Floor: Continuing up and you'll appreciate the fact that space and light are a feature throughout this house. The top floor contains three further double bedrooms and one twin room, in addition to a modern shower room with a power shower.
Further details outdoors: Outside: La Poterie is set in an acre of grounds and the original fromagerie still stands. There are no neighbours so your group can enjoy the utmost privacy during your stay. There is also a hammock, a croquet lawn, a barbecue, bicycles available for guests use, and plenty of space for parking.

This must be paid 8 weeks prior to arrival and will be refunded in full after departure subject to damage inspection. - Linen & towels: All bed linen is included in the rental price. Please bring your own towels. - Energy costs: Included in the rental price. - End of stay cleaning: House should be cleaned thoroughly and left as found on arrival, with any used bed linen taken off the beds and left on the floor of each bedroom. - Arrival time: 4pm onwards. - Departure time: 10am. - Pets: No pets allowed. - Smoking: No smoking in the property.
