Machiya townhouse is hidden inside one of the small allies of Kyoto. Downstairs has a full kichen, a bathroom with a tub, an all-automatic toilet, and a living/dining area while upstairs has a small balcony, two bedrooms(main with two single beds and another with two sets of Futons), and a small balcony. With thoroughly renovated interior and elegant furnishing, our Machiya allows you to enjoy both modern and tranditional tastes of living in the heart of Kyoto.

The house is 5 min walk to a series of restaurants and shops, and 15 min walk to UNESCO world heritage listed Kiyomizu shrine, Sanju Sangendo Temple, National Museum of Art, and much more.

The Honshu region

Honshu is the area considered to be the "mainland" of Japan. Kyoto is located in the Kansai region, most famous for its history and cuisine. Other cities of interest on the mainland (Honshu) are Tokyo (2.5 hours), Osaka (30 minutes), Hiroshima (1.5 hours), and Kobe (45 minutes). If you purchase JR Shinkansen pass (Bullet Train), you can easily visit these cities from Kyoto's JR Station, just 5 minutes by taxi from our machiya.

Kyoto / Gojo area

Kyoto is the old capital of Japan and easily the most historical place in Japan, home to many historical sites such as temples and shrines along with an ever present Geisha culture and various forms of art. Kyoto is also a modern and cultural city, which attracts younger generations, with hip cafes, restaurants, shops, galleries, and museums.

How to get there

• From Kansai International Airport, 90 mins by either JR Express train, Haruka OR airport shuttle bus to JR Kyoto station.
• 5 min taxi ride OR 20 walk from JR Kyoto station.
• The nearest station is Keihan Line Gojo station and it's less than 5 min walk from the house.
