The Honshu region

We are located in the heart of Shiga prefecture. Although only 40 minutes from the city of Kyoto, we are surrounded by lovely mountains and situated on the shore of Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake. Known as "mother lake" it is a place no visitor to the Kyoto or Shiga area should miss. The train systems in Japan are second to none so although situated in Japan's beautiful coutryside you are by no means cut off from civilisation. In 40 minutes you can be in the centre of Kyoto, another 40 minutes directly through, the centre of Osaka, and from there a short way away from Kobe, Universal studios, and other attractions in the Kansai region - all within an easy day trip from our guesthouse.

Kyoto

In August there are a number of firework festivals along the lakeside, local hot baths, a ropeway up to a ski resort which in summer is open to anyone from hikers to families going for picnics on the mountain top. Also on the lakeside, there is a wonderful freshwater aqarium you can visit, a number of adventure playgrounds for kids, and a number of places offering watersports on the lake.
