The Aegean Coast region
The west coast of Turkey boasts the longest sandy beach in the country, traditional pretty fishing villages, archaeological sites and bustling tourist resorts. The most popular of these is “Kusadasi” meaning Bird Island. Idyllically located just 45 Min from Izmir Airport and 90 Min from Bodrum Airport, both of which offer regular flights from the UK ,Ireland & Europe in general throughout the year.
This vibrant resort is beautifully set in a bay overlooking the Aegean coast as far as the Greek Island of Samos. The Harbour welcomes daily cruises liners from all over the world making Kusadasi a busy shopping port with an abundance of jewellery, leather & Turkish Carpet shops. Along the main street, fronted by the “Caravanseri” this old castle dates back to the Ottoman Empire. The palm lined promenade stretches from the harbour along the seafront to the Yacht Marina which houses many luxury private yachts.
Nightlife in Kusadasi has something to offer every taste. For those wishing to savour the relaxed traditional atmosphere, the old quarter known as the “Kaleici” offers small cosy bars and local restaurants. Bar Street attracts the young and lively wishing to dance to the early hours of the morning. Along the seafront overlooking the beach, wonder into one of the many upmarket cafes or restaurants to savour the sea view and cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Kusadasi has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters, providing a long tourism season with over 320 days of sunshine annually Ideal to visit at any time of year.
The Kusadasi / Sogucak area
GOLF COMES TO KUSADASI
I visited the course in April 2012 and it does exist and looks like a very nice golf course. I spoke to a member of staff who gave me the following information.
The Kusadasi International Golf resort will open in May 2012 . The first 9 holes will open in May and the second 9 holes will open next year at some stage. The cost for 9 holes will be 42 EURO.
This is about a 15 minute drive from Pinehaven. When you leave Pinehaven, turn right and drive through the village of Sogucak. At the main junction, turn right onto the main road to Soke. Keep driving until you see the sign for 'KUSADASI INTERNATIONAL RESORT', turn right and you have arrived.
Beaches
Moonlight Beach is our nearest beach and is less than 5 minutes drive. They provide free sun loungers and umbrellas.Like most bars and restaurants they also provide wireless access to the internet. Good food is also available. The local beaches have a laid back approach to life and offer outdoor dining on the beach. Many have a weekly BBQ night but for larger parties they will arrange one especially for you with 24 hrs notice. Live sports available on TV as well. There is also a free pool table.
The longest beach in Turkey runs from the outskirts of Kusadasi to the neighbouring areas of Davutlar and Guzelcamli, almost 28 km of white sandy beach and a firm favourite for water sports.
Ladies Beach is extremely attractive with its pedestrian promenade overlooking the beach for those seeking relaxed atmosphere, fine restaurants and summer buzz.
Historical
Within easy reach just 30 Min is the ancient city of Ephesus which houses one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Located nearby you will also find the House of the Virgin Mary believed to be the last resting place of Our Lady. Selcuk's Ephesus Museum is well worth a visit.
Pumakalle is about a 150 minute drive away and is well worth a visit. You can bathe in warm spring water and is the the site of an ancient spa settlement.
Aqua-Parks
There are 3 large Aqua-Parks for families and those looking for plenty of action. Adaland's new addition of a "Dolphin Show" is a huge attraction. Aqua fantasy with its fairy castles, water slides and wave pools is deal for an unforgettable day out for all the family. Long Beach Aqua Park is approximately 10kms from the town centre.
Restaurants & Shopping
Kusadasi is a shoppers paradise with well over 1000 Jewellery, Leather, Carpet and Souvenir shops open from early morning till late 7 days a week giving you plenty of opportunity to try out your bargaining skills and having a drink at the same time is all part of the tradition.
Restaurants abound offering authentic Turkish food alongside cuisine from around the world.
Turkish wines are excellent and remember to try the Turkish national drink "Raki"
Talk a walk alongside the palm lined promenade especially early evening to watch the most spectacular of sunsets or stroll through the Kaleici with its old style buildings, shops and the more traditional bars and restaurants. " Bar Street " famous for its night life is not to be missed for a fun night out.
The historical Kervansaray with its traditional Turkish night is certainly to be enjoyed by all the family.
You can also catch up on and watch live all the soccer and Gaelic Games (An Dun Abu).
There are tennis courts avaiable in Kusadasi for hire.
The Kusadasi International Golf Resort is near completion and WILL BE READY FOR GOLF IN MAY 2012.
The local village of Sougcak is a working village with two wonderful restaurants with stunning views down the valley and of the Greek Island of Samos. Food and service is excellent and friendly. They also offer a free taxi service to and from the villa.
There truly is something here for everyone.
The shops in the village sell basic provisions including bread, milk, sweets and beverages (alcoholic and soft drinks). There is also a weekly market.
There are also large supermarkets within 10/15 minute drive that sell everything you would want. Kipa which is the Turkish version of Tesco is about 15 minutes drive away. They also have fast food outlets and a cinema which will keep the kids happy for a while.

My husband and I rented this villa so that our Turkish relatives could come and join us on holiday. It was an ideal location for us not too far from Izmir. There was plenty space for the family without being on top of one another. You really need a car for this location although there are frequent Dolmus to get you about. We loved the peace and quiet, you can't hear any traffic and you get the best night sky for star gazing. There was plenty space for dining outside but bring your mosquito repellent. We did have a small problem with the pool filtration whilst we were there although it remained safe to swim in but there is also a communal pool very close by and we found it larger to accommodate the whole family. This is the place for peace, quiet and relaxation and great for family gatherings. |
