The Sabah region
Borneo is full of adventure-Mountain Climbing, Rafting, Botanical, Zoological Gardens, World Class SCUBA diving and excellent shopping.
Kudat is near the Tip of Borneo, which is the confluence of the South China and Sulu sea and an area known as the Coral triangle-the most bio diverse ocean region in the world.
Close to the rest of Asia, Singapore, Taiwan, Philippines, Hong Kong and China. There is a brand new International Airport in Kota Kinabalu that will be operational this year, KK is becoming a boom town large shopping malls opening in 2008/2009 in KK.
The town was founded by A H Everett of the British North Borneo Company on December 7, 1881 to be the first capital of British North Borneo, due to its strategic geographic location. However, after being repeatedly raided by Bajau, Sulu and Illanun pirates, in 1883 the capital was shifted to the more secure port of Sandakan, on the east coast.
Borneo is a year round destination with temperatures rarely ever falling below 30º March - November are generally the optimum months to enjoy the most sunshine as December - February can be variable. However, a day without any sunshine is rare. The Northeast Monsoon occurs from November till January bringing stormy weather and rainfall. For February till April, the weather becomes relatively dry as a result of dry winds coming from the Pacific Ocean. The annual typhoon season that sweeps towards the Philippines do not affect Sabah that is directly below it, giving it the popular name as ‘Land Below the Wind’. Mount Kinabalu in Sabah has the coldest temperatures and is a popular tourist destination.
The Kudat area

We stayed at the Poseidon house for a week over Christmas with two kids and had a fantastic time. The house is in a truly unique setting, no neighbours, no camp site, no disco, just jungle and passing eagles, hornbills and, on moonless nights, a perfect view of Orion's belt and Saturn. The staff was very nice and access to very cheap freshly fished local seafood grilled to perfection in the evening (along with a few beers) made it a very special holiday. Would definitely go again, especially to write (and sleep). Lovely local people too, perfectly safe.

We spent 9 days in Poseidon House in July/August and had the most memorable holiday. We have travelled to various places in the world but nothing compared to the beauty of Borneo and Poseidon House. The house is magnificent and was the perfect place to relax and spend time together as a family. Anne and Sirena were wonderful and really looked after us and Sabah and Sirena's brother were so helpful and friendly. We all loved Ray's paintings and in fact, none of us wanted to come home! Our children had an experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives and we will definitely return at some stage in the future. Borneo really is a hidden paradise and Poseidon house is the perfect place to stay to make your holiday really special.

Best Part of our holiday was Poseidon House
Karl-Heinz R. Review Submitted: August 4, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
We spent a week in June 2011 at Poseidon House, only a party of three people. Poseidon House is much more better than the pictures can tell. It is very well maintained, situated on two big rocks with breathtaking seaview. The pool is very special, we have never seen a pool like that (with rocks in the water). We alss enjoyed the empty beach an dthe snorkeling at the reef just in front of the house.
The staff was very friendly and helpfull, Sabah showed us all we needed in Kudat and Ann was always there and helped us with alle the things inside the house. Thanks very much to the hole staff!
The booking was also very easy, therefore thank you very much to Fran and also tank you for all the helpful hints before arriving.
If we come back to Sabah, we will definitely stay once more at Psoeidon House.

Enjoyed a great 7 day holiday at Posidon House. The villa was perfect for our family of 5. The children particularly enjoyed the fantastic pool - the water was unbelieveable warm.
The villa itself was amazing - even better than the photos. Each bedroom had a great view, a seating area and a spaciuos bathroom. The view from the lounge with the large glass doors was fantastic - I could have spent all week sat on the balcony watching the odd boat pass by.
The villa staff were very good. We could not fault the cleanliness of the villa or the services they provided - from the breakfast to the assistance with the kayaks and market shopping. All the meals we had prepared were excellent.
We were fortunate enough to be there for a few days whilst the owners were around - they were extremely welcoming and kindly spent time showing us how to snorkle and kayak safely and provided lots of information regarding the local area.
The villa was well located - only a short walk to the beach - which was lovely - perfect for a quiet morning run - in fact is was deserted all the time we were there - no matter what time of day- aside from a few locals fishing.
There is enough to see in the local area - more lovely deserted beaches and Kudat town is very nice and we found all the supplies we needed there. To be honest it was hard to drag ourselves away from the villa and the beach. We particularly liked the fact that this area of Sabah is so unspolit - we didn't another western tourist all week.
The children really enjoyed our half day jungle survival training - run by the villa manger - the were wowed by the big knives and fire lighting.
Would highly recommend this villa to anyone seeking a bit of luxury away from it all.

In juli 2010 we had the privilege to stay in Poseidon House. Me, my wife and our two daughters were surprised: the house is beautiful, the location is picture perfect and the region Kudat is not crowded with tourists. We have to mention that the staff of the house is exceptional friendly. If you prefer an easy going, relaxed and comfortable holiday in an unspoiled environment we highly recommend the Poseidon House. Finally the owners and Howard (their local representative) are helpful in any possible way.

After a stressful start to the year I was looking for a relaxing week to rejuvenate the soul before heading on a Borneo adventure. Poseidon House was just the spot to kick back, catch up with friends and spoil myself with the natural treats surrounding the house. The beautiful beaches, local markets, snorkelling and sunsets at the Tip of Borneo all added to the wonderful experience. As for the house itself....wow! Simply stunning. Luxurious comforts with service to match. My hardest decision of the week was which bedroom to rest my head in! I can highly recommend the pool room.....lay in bed and look out at the pool gardens back dropped by the sea. Bliss!
I am not one to return to the same holiday spot twice but I will be sure to be heading back to Poseidon House very soon!

I booked a week in April with my husband and 3 friends. Poseidon far exceeded expectations! The location and house are fabulous, a real paradise. The full service was real value for money and meant we could truly relax and put our feet up. Delicious food was provided to our timetable and to our varied tastes (vegetarian etc) with no problem. Our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer!!!
I highly recommend a visit!

This house is gorgeous-the owners built the house around a large boulder, so it's incorporated into two of the bedrooms, and what is especially nice, the pool. The master bedroom is in the main house, but you have to go outside to get to the other two bedrooms. This creates a lot of privacy, but may be tricky if staying with small children. The owners are very helpful and kind, as are the staff. You can check out fabulous beaches a ten to twenty minute car ride away or just stay at the pool or use their beach. The house beach wasn't as beautiful as some others, but the snorkeling is very good.
The house is fully equipped with everything you could think of, and the owners were kind enough to provide a Christmas tree and decorations for our kids... they are really sweet.
Overall, this house would be perfect for couples or extended family-the common areas are massive, and the bedrooms private and beautiful.

Poseidon House, situated on three and a half acres amongst incredible scenery at the northernmost tip of Borneo, in Sabah, is an amazing place to spend a holiday.
The beautifully designed home sits perched high on rocks, with 180 degree views out to sea. We felt the most amazing sense of peace and calm. Each morning we would wander through the gardens, down the rustic steps amongst the palm trees, to the beautiful, white pristine beach. Apart from the odd fisherman plying the waters in small fishing boats, we had the beach to ourselves, and would swim and snorkel, or just walk the beach.
The rooms are beautifully laid out, with original oil paintings by the owner gracing the walls throughout the house, and are elegantly furnished. It is obvious that great attention has been paid to ensuring guests are made to feel welcome in a luxurious and stunning environment.
The friendly, helpful members of staff kept everything spic and span and cooked our breakfast for us in the mornings and produced wonderful BBQs of fish and shellfish in the evenings (our preference, as the seafood in this part of the world is exceptional).
We spent time exploring the nearby town of Kudat, or else lazing by the clean, clear swimming pool built amongst the natural rock, and enjoying the stupendous view, whilst supping a cold glass of white wine.
It is a wonderful place to spend a holiday and we will be back!

Everything about our stay at Poseidon House was wonderful. From the beginning when we made our first enquiry the level of support and information provided was of the highest quality. The booking process was easy and payment terms were very reasonable and flexible. The information provided by the owners about the house and the region was great and really helpful to help us plan and get excited. This included detailed and accurate directions from some of Borneos large towns.
On arrival the house was everything we had hoped it would be and was exactly what we had seen in the photos. It was beautifully presented and perfectly ready for our arrival.
The staff at the house were amazingly helpful and frankly made the stay as wonderful as it was. They provided great service and were very amenable to our requirements, They also were wonderful guides and sensational cooks!
The town of Kudat itself is fairly simple but had everything one could need only a short drive away and with a house this nice why would you want to leave?!
We highly recommend Posiedon House for your stay in the region. It really is as wonderful as it looks and provides that touch of luxury we were after.

We spent 4 days in the Poseidon House and would have loved to stay longer. We were five adults and a two year old and had the best time. Everything was absolutely perfect, from the introduction by the owner over phone, email and skype, to the setting and the house itself, the cleanliness and the staff.
The house is just stunning and the photos really does not do it justice. And the maid deserves a special mention, she is just fabulous and her cooking is brilliant.
We would love to come back!

Review Submitted: May 14, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
We stayed at Poseidon House during our children's (ages 13, 11, and 9) spring break week, and we all absolutely loved it!
The drive from Kota Kinabalu is about 2.5 hours, and the kids were getting a little antsy by the time we got to Kudat. But as soon as we got to Poseidon House, their restlessness changed into sheer excitement. The house and grounds are so exotic and beautiful, the setting is just picture-postcard perfect, and the accommodations are absolutely first-class. We were all captivated from the minute we arrived.
The amazing thing about Poseidon House is that it is even lovelier than the photos on the website would suggest! And the photos make it look pretty nice. We were a little worried that the actual house wouldn't quite compare with the images on the website, but that was not a problem at all. The furnishings and decor are all extremely tasteful and well done.
Then there is the pool! It is much bigger and even nicer than we thought, based on the photos. It was almost impossible for us to get our kids out of the pool -- they were completely enchanted by it. You really have to experience the setting to appreciate how amazing the house and pool are.
On top of that, you have a kilometer or so of what is essentially a private beach at your disposal. The beach is perfect for collecting shells (hundreds of them!), swimming, snorkeling, checking out the critters in the tide pools, etc. We had a bit of stormy weather during our stay, and the wind and waves stirred up quite a bit of sand and silt that clouded the water. But on the calm days, the water was crystal clear and visibility was excellent.
The town of Kudat is definitely not a major vacation destination. However, it has all the necessities, and as the website suggests, we enjoyed driving into town and going to the fish market to pick out our dinner. Everyone was quite friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a place to really get far away from the hustle and bustle of your daily life, Poseidon House and Kudat are ideal.
Perhaps the best part of Poseidon House, though, is how friendly and helpful the owners are. They offered helpful, accurate advice about literally every part of our trip. They went out of their way to make our trip convenient and worry-free. It was one of the best vacations we have ever had, and we can't wait to go back again!

Like something from a James Bond scene Poseidon's House erupts out of the rock promontory that it sits on. I can almost see Ian Fleming sitting on the large veranda, overlooking a tropical beach ocean view that would challenge any wide angle lense, penning his latest Bond novel.
I've stayed here twice when traveling with Borneo Biking Adventures. I remember my first impression of entering through the gate and up the drive through the landscaped surroundings up to the house and then out onto the veranda. After a long day riding to sit outside and stare out over the beautiful view was truly intoxicating.
The house itself is a beautiful setting for relaxing and exploring the area around Kudat and beyond. The property is immaculately turned out. My bedroom suite in particular was fantastic with the rock that the house is built on providing one wall to the suite, which added character to the rooms and makes it truly unique. I could have happily stayed there much longer.
The property doesn't stop with the landscaped grounds, beautiful house and pool area but extends down to a private beach and reef. This fantastic opportunity to snorkel completely undisturbed for hours simply adds to the feeling that the property is like something out of a Bond movie.
The sense of privacy and the luxurious surroundings make this a truly stunning place to stay.

This has got to be one of the most idyllic settings for a getaway one could dream of. A vast balcomy overlooking the South China Sea, swimming in the ocean down off the private beach, or soaking in the infinity pool watching the sunset.
The house is simply stunning: Built on a rock precipice, it overlooks the beach and ocean and has the most striking architecture. Foundations embedded in sheer granite, a pool cupped between natural rock formations, and an expansive garden.
The place is remote and secluded, with a privacy gate far from the villa, and the maid is equally unbtrusive. A perfect getaway or place to simply relay away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Poseidon House is a stunning villa whose three floors are built around and on top of a large rocky outcrop with commanding views over the sea. In the two bedrooms on the lower levels the sandstone rock actually forms some of the interior walls, giving the rooms real character. We stayed in the Sunset room, a beautiful and extremely spacious en suite room with windows on three sides and dramatic views down the side of the rock to the rainforest below.
Although the house is only a 10 minute drive from Kudat town it is nevertheless set away from any other houses completely on its own down a private drive with its own beach frontage. It's amazingly peaceful. The only sound of civilisation we heard during our stay was the put-put of the small fishing boats coming out at dusk for a night's fishing. The house complements the peace of the location with a very relaxed atmosphere inside. The vast living area on the main floor has floor to ceiling french windows that slide open to create the impression of being outside but still sheltered from the heat of the sun. Everything is furnished and decorated to a very high standard in neutral colors that really suited our European tastes.
One of the highlights was the exotic swimming pool, formed from a natural hollow in the rock - it's a pool with a difference, which we really enjoyed. A short walk down some steps at the bottom of the garden leads to a very nice, and completely deserted, beach of white coral sand. There is a coral reef just offshore that is suitable for snorkeling, but having been used to the largely undamaged reefs in the marine park near Kota Kinabalu we were disappointed at the amount of damage to this reef caused by fishing.
It's a place that lends itself to just chilling out - which suited us fine. There isn't a great deal to do in Kudat. Eating out is cheap but fairly basic and the supermarket has a fairly limited range - we would suggest bringing any luxury food items with you. Further along the coast there are some truly stunning beaches near the Tip of Borneo.
Next to the house is the living quarters of the house staff. We enjoyed the luxury of having the rooms made up and cleaned each day. Sabah the caretaker was always willing to help and we got by with my smattering of Malaysian and his smattering of English!
Overall we would recommend this villa to those who want to experience the natural beauty of North Borneo and who really want to relax in style.

I stayed at the Beach Villa a few weeks ago and was stunned by the beauty of not only the house but also the surrounding area. It was the perfect holiday where my husband and I could be on our own but stay in complete luxury and feel looked after.
The house is amazing and huge! The swimming pool has been built around the natural rock and has a view of the sea and the beach.
The beach feels private and is very clean, I would recommend this holiday to anyone!
