History | Getting Around | Attractions
More than any other spot in the country, Kuala Lumpur, or "KL" as it is commonly known, is the focal point of new Malaysia. While the city's past is still present in the evocative British colonial buildings of the Dataran Merdeka and the midnight lamps of the Petaling Street night market, that past is everywhere met with insistent reminders of KL's present and future. The city's bustling streets, its shining, modern office towers, and its cosmopolitan air project an unbounded spirit of progress and symbolize Malaysia's unhesitating leap into the future. To some, this spirit seems to have been gained at the loss of ancient cultural traditions, but in many ways KL marks the continuation rather than the loss of Malaysia's rich past. Like Malacca five hundred years before, KL's commercial centre is a grand meeting place for merchants and travellers from all over the world.
In the same way, the city brings together Malaysia's past and present, its many constituent cultures, and even its remarkable natural treasures, allowing first-time visitors an invaluable opportunity to see Malaysia as a whole before setting off to explore its parts. In the botanical and bird parks of the Lake Gardens one is treated to a first glimpse of the unsurpassed beauty and variety of Malaysia's plants and animals. In the vibrant Central Market, music, crafts, and cultural practices from Kelantan to Sarawak can be explored and experienced. And in the National Museum, the dizzying multiplicity of Malaysia's cultural history comes into focus. As the entry point for most visitors and the meeting point of the country's many attractions, Kuala Lumpur is a grand gateway to a fascinating destination.
Other attractions around KL are north of the city, where limestone peaks rise up out of the forest and the roads narrow as you pass through small kampungs. There is dramatic scenery as close as 13km from the city, where the Hindu shrine at the Batu Caves attracts enough visitors to make it one of Malaysia's main tourist attractions. Further north, the Orang Asli Museum offers a fascinating insight into the Peninsula's native inhabitants, and the Forest Institute of Malaysia encompasses the nearest portion of primary rainforest to the capital. Southwest of KL, the most alluring place is Klang, Selangor's first capital, location of a fascinating tin museum. Ferries to Sumatra leave from Port Klang, 8km southwest of Klang. A little further north along the coast, Kuala Selangor Nature Park and the fireflies at Kuala Kuantan are worth a visit
The Kuala Lumpur / Cheras area
Venice Hill gives you real local living, natural surroundings the flat overlooks tropical forest. If you love swimming some week days you can almost have the pool to yourself. Down the hill there are many restaurants giving tastes of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Western dishes some of which are available all night and is a delicious experience. There is a wonderful local night market once a week. Near by in Taman Conaught there is Malaysia biggest Night Market well worth a visit for the food and shopping. There will be a list of places left in the information packs which also lets you know about places to visit and explore in Kuala Lumpur. There is a golf course within a short drive and it is very reasonably priced in Malaysia. You can have some great days at Venice Hill while you explore Kuala Lumpur.

When I fly from London I often use Lee Travel Emporium London 44 208 452 8882 as they often do cheap flight details
I also have a local cab driver in Kuala Lumpur who can no longer pick you up at the airport. His costs are very reasonable and he knows where my flat is nut he can collect you at an LRT station
There is a fast train from the Airport in KL Centre from where you can then catch a bus or take a taxi
I can also recommend some car hire companies which have very reasonable rates but if you want the big companies there are also many

Thank you for sharing your lovely apartment in Venice Hill. It's light and airiness, along with a fantastic view, are a welcome respite from the heat of KL. My wife and I had a lovely time sitting on the balcony watching the clouds and enjoying the fresh air and slight breeze. The apartment is lovely and the local amenities - swimming pool, shop, restaurant, tennis are all in good shape. Especially the pool which is olympic size - we spent many a happy afternoon poolside. Venice Hill is a great location and within easy reach of everything you could need. Local restaurants were full of great food and an even better price. Local mega malls and markets offer great selection of items without the hassle of Bukit Bintan. It's probably a good idea to rent a car - we did and driving was no problem. |

Guestbook for Venice Hill Condominum
It was an absolute joy staying at your place in the hills. We had a great time in KL and really appreciated all the comforts in the flat. We went out almost every day and it was always nice coming "home". It strikes me that sharing your apartment with so many others is not really to do with the money - you genuinely enjoy sharing. By the way, the place was spotlessly clean when we arrived and I am sure Katrina was impressed with the way we left it. When we first arrived from the airport it seemed a little remote but once we got our rental car we realised that we were in a great position. It’s far away from the hustle and bustle of KLCC but still within easy reach by road. We also went to Port Dickson and the Blue Lagoon - truly one of the best days out ever. Needless to say we went to the usual tourist attractions like Batu Caves, Genting Highlands, Aquaria, Petronas Towers etc etc. The literature in the flat was very useful, thank you. Thanks Laura for sharing your home with us and wish you all the best for the future. Warm regards, Ali and family. Feb 08 Ali Gilani Pakistan
We had a great time and was very impressed with your apartment as well as with Venice Hill. Your friend Katrina was very helpful as well. In fact, even our Malaysian friend, Josh, was so impressed that he was wondering whether you would be interested to rent out for a weekend away for the locals. He even commented that there is no need to go to Genting Highlands anymore for weekend aways as your place was like a resort to him. Surprisingly, he's been in KL for years and did not know about Venice Hill. Jean Lau Aug 07
