The Mpumalanga region
The beauty of Mpumalanga is not easily surpassed, and the access visitors have to incredible scenery, mountain landscape, sweeping rivers, waterfalls, misty valleys and the lowveld's myriad game parks make the north-eastern province a popular choice. Blyde River Canyon, the world's third largest canyon, is just one of the highlights, which also include Sudwala Caves, Bourkes Luck Potholes, the southern Kruger Park, the Berlin Falls, God's Window and the Three Rondawels. Add to that the quaint villages of Pilgrim's Rest and Barberton, Sabie and its allure is easily understood.
Nelspruit, the capital of Mpumalanga, lies in the fertile valley of the Crocodile River and has been called the gateway to Mpumalanga and the Kruger National Park. The Lowveld Botanical Gardens just outside Nelspruit boasts a rare collection of plant species and the first man-made rain forest which attracts the majority of Nelspruits visitors. The Botanical Gardens are regarded the best in the whole of South Africa.
Nearby Sudwala caves, a dinosaur park and cultural centre will expose your senses to the most primitive of Africa's history. A short distance away from Nelspruit is the gold mining town of Kaapsehoop where the mist filled evenings and herds of wild horses grazing in the town will transport you into memories of the past.
The local area to Velogecko is bushveld and game farms with an abundance of wildlife, both game and birdlife.
