About the home

Villa Planina is situated on the edge of a charming rustic village called Ratece, in the heart of the Julian Alps just outside Slovenia’s most famous ski-resort Kranjska Gora, home to annual world cup slalom and ski-jumping events.

The Villa is situated in a unique location with uninterrupted panoramic views from each apartment towards the snow capped peaks of Jalovec and Mojstrovka mountains and bathed in sunlight from morning to evening. Finished to an extremely high quality, with unstinting attention to detail, we believe the Villa sets new standards in self-catering accommodation in the Kranjska Gora area - underfloor heating, flat screen TVs, DVD players, wireless internet, shared games room with pool table and ping pong table are among the many facilities. The house is on the edge of the wonderful alpine Slovenian village of Ratece with 4 excellent restaurants, bar and supermarket in walking distance.

The first floor apartment is extremely spacious and light and features one large double bedroom with balcony access, one twin bedroom (beds can be moved together to create a double), large bathroom with bath and shower, large open plan kitchen (fully fitted with dishwasher, washing machine, oven, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster) dining area and living space with access onto a huge sunny balcony with fantastic views.

Extremely spacious, comfortable and bright first floor apartment with two bedrooms, open plan living room / kitchen / dining room, bathroom and hallway. Large balcony accessed from one bedroom and the living room mountain views in all directions. Catches the sun all day! Large comfortable double sofa bed in the living room. High quality bathroom with full sized bath and power shower. Underfloor heating, flatscreen TV, cable TV, wireless internet. Communal games room with pool table and table tennis and soft play room for kids which can be used by all our guests. There is one child's cot / highchair in the building available on a first come first served basis - please enquire.

Guests may also take advantage of the communal book and DVD library recently created for your enjoyment.

The Gorenjska region

The Gorenjska region is home to Slovenia's most beautiful scenery, the stunning Julian Alps and the Triglav National Park.

The Julian alps are renowned for their beauty, accessibility & a multitude of outdoor activities. Ratece is a characteristic rustic village with a very easy going pace of life in an excellent position for exploring these wonderful mountains, just 5 minutes drive from Kranjska Gora & the Austrian & Italian borders. The famous Tamar Valley (home of the world famous Planica ski jump centre) is just a few minutes away & a breathtaking place for walking, as it the whole Triglav National park accessible from Kranjska Gora. Watersports on the Soca river are easily accessible for daytrips as are the famous lakes at Bohinj & Bled. As for skiing it is easily possible to ski a different resort every day for a week [Kranjska Gora / Ratece (Slo) - 5 mins, Tarvisio (IT) Arnoldstein (Aus) - 30mins, Kanin, Vogel & Krvavec (Slo), Sella Nevea (It), Gerlitzen & Nassfeld (Aus) - 60mins]. In the Kranjska Gora area there are an abundance of tourist facilities, from restaurants to bars, shops, spas & pools.

The Kranjska Gora / Ratece area

The area offers an abundance of outdoor activities in beautiful natural surroundings and a wide choice of restaurants, bars and shops and other tourist facilities including spa and pools. 3 ski areas visible from the flats - Kranjska Gora (5 minute drive), Ratece (2 mins) & Tarvisio-Monte Lussari in Italy (20 mins), a large Nordic skiing centre & a world cup ski jump a few minutes drive away. 7 more ski resorts are within 30-60 mins drive. In Summer there is a wealth of superb mountain walking nearby as well as other sports including mountain biking, horse-riding, swimming (2 local pools) and a Summer sledging piste. Alternatively just taking in the view from the sunny balconies is highly recommended!

There are a range of budget / national airlines flying within easy reach of Villa Planina. e.g. Easyjet London - Ljubljana & Ryanair London - Klagenfurt are both within an hour's drive of the house. Salzburg, Venice, Trieste, Graz & Zagreb airports all 2-3 hours drive. Easy train access via Tarvisio (Italy), Jesenice (Slovenia) or Villach (Austria) - all within 20 minutes drive of the house. Villa Planina made our stay at Kranjska Gora wonderful. The apartment was quite spacious, and it had all that was needed for a comfortable stay. The booking is easy, and the people who are responsible for your welcome and for your needs while you are there are always available. The location of the Villa is excellent, easy to find and the village it is located in is near several ski resorts. We warmly recommend Vila Planina if you ever come across a vacation in Kranjska Gora

We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Planina and we will certainly recommend the place, if someone, we know, is coming to Slovenia/Kranjska Gora. Actually the place was even better than we thought, so tidy, everything was working without problems, the location was ideal (easy to get to even without an own car) and the view - wow! I can only envy people living in a place like that. All in all we liked our stay in Slovenia that much, we really hope we can visit the country again.
