The Gorenska region
For day trips, the capital city, Ljubljana, is just over an hour away and is an absolute must to visit. It is still an undiscovered gem with its elegant old town, castle and riverside cafes.
Nearby Lake Bled is extremely pretty with the countries only island and fairytale castle. Lake Bohinj is located in the Julian Alps not far from Bled. The area is extremely beautiful. It's as good looking as the nicest places in Switzerland or Austria, but life here is a whole lot cheaper. The water of the lake is of the deepest blue. The hike up to the falls is strenous, but pleasant.
In summer hiking and biking are the favourite activities.
Slovenia is also home to the famous Lipizzaner horses and the Skocjan caves, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Also, the Postojna cave is a wordfamous attraction. A day trip to Venice is also option with boats crossing from the coastal region at Piran.

During school holidays, children can enjoy the Kekec festival with numerous activities, have fun and be creative.
It's rivers and valleys are also home to many adventurous water sports. A summer and winter tourist resort in northwestern Slovenia near the borders with Austria and Italy, Kranjska Gora touches Triglav National Park to the south. The imposing peaks of the Julian Alps, the vast forests stretching from Mojstrana to Rateče, and the ski areas among them attract hikers, alpinists, bicyclists, and skiers. The Kranjska Gora ski lifts have the longest history in Slovenia. They are easily reached since they are located near international highways, and because of their altitude (the lower station is at 813 meters) they offer favourable weather and snow conditions. The slopes are suitable for all levels of skiing skills. Beginners and recreational skiers will enjoy the slopes and trails in Kranjska Gora, Gozd Martuljek, and while the Podkoren trail is more demanding. The best skiers in the world compete annually on this run for the Vitranc Trophy in World Cup men’s giant slalom and slalom races. Kranjska Gora is ready to offer the many pleasures of winter’s delights. White slopes and snowfields are ready and waiting to welcome the first enthusiasts. A wide spectre of winter sports – from skiing, snowboarding, and exploring snowfields to ice climbing and ice skating – will more than satisfy even the most demanding tourist and the already short days will pass even more quickly. In the winter season the Zgornjesavska valley is the venue of several important events. Top world skiers and ski-jumpers gather in the Zgornjesavska valley to either compete against time – where every thousand of a second counts or to see which one can fly furthest at the Alpine Ski World Championships. And there are several other events to provide plenty of entertainment and fun for everyone.
An enjoyable downhill ski along the snow-covered slopes of Vitranc will fill both the beginner and the experienced skier alike with pleasure and enthusiasm. The difficulty of the ski runs varies from the very easy and suitable for children to the steep competition runs in Podkoren. Snowboarders will be able to make sure there is no shortage of acrobatics.
To prolong the winter fun most of our ski slopes are additionally covered with artificial snow. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own ski equipment - you can rent it. ski info: www.slo-skiing.net http://www.slovenia.info/?smucanje=58
