The Carpathian / Polish Mountains / Tatra Mountains/Krakow Area
Krakow is set just north of the Carpathian and Tatry mountains, an area of exceptional natural beauty and historical and cultural importance. There are five UNESCO World Heritage sites:
Auschwitz-Birkenau (known in Poland as Oswiecim) Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, a landscaped park of great natural beauty and religious significance Krakows town centre 13th Century salt mine at Wieliczka 16th Century wooden churches of Lesser Poland
The Ojcow National park is located 16km to the North and Krakow, and although it is the smallest of the Polish National Parks, it is famous for its unique rock formations and hundreds of caves.
There are numerous health spas in the area around Krakow including at Krynica, Muszyna, Busko Zdroj, and Piwniczna.
The Tatry are a beautiful and unspoilt mountain range, offering a range of alpine sports, walking and beautiful views.
100km to the South of Krakow is the famous alpine resort of Zakopane, with it's ski resorts, unique local highland culture and language, and scenic hiking trails.
The South of Poland has a distinctly continental climate, with long hot summers, very cold winters with ample snow and wet springs and autumns.

Krakow is considered as the jewel of Polish towns, it is the cultural, historical and tourist centre of the country.
There is the beautiful town centre, the historic churches, museums and palaces, but also plenty of entertainment, clubs, bars, restaurants, concert halls and even the opera.

How to get there
The main flight companies operating in the airport include Aer Lingus, British Airways, LOT (the Polish national airline), Air France, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, and Lufthansa. There are also lots of budget airlines operating here, including Central Wings, easyJet, German Wings, Jet 2, Ryanair, Sterling, and SkyEurope. Alternatively, you can fly to Warsaw for a connecting flight.
