Kotor Old Town Apartment (apartment)
Home descriptionOur luxury apartment is located in a 17th century building in the quiet part of Kotor Old Town. It is close to the North Gate and overlooks the Sveti Marija church and square, entrance to the historic Fortress and the well-known Bastion restaurant.
The Boka Kotorska Fjord regionThe entire length of the Boka Kotorska Bay (literally "inlet" and also known as the Bay of Kotor) is 15 nautical miles or 28 km. In the 4th century Bc the Greeks founded the town of Risan here (and Budva further down the coast). The Romans, after defeating the Illyrian tribes, settled in 2nd century Ad, renaming the coast Dalmatia. By the 5th century, after the roman empire had been divided, the Boka Kotorska remained under western influence while the rest of the land became part of Byzantium. But by the end of the 6th century the southern Slavs had taken all the territory inland and the Dalmatian coast into a bargain. Although from the early 15th centrury until 1797 the Republic of Venice was a significant presence in this inner part of the Boka Kotorska Bay and left such an indeilible mark, the region has always essentially been the domain of its indigenous seafares acclaimed over the centuries for their mastery of all maritime matters. Kotor areaVisit the beautiful coastal Old Town of Budva and Sveti Stefan island nearby. Well worth the visit. Alternatively, see Perast which is only a 15 minute drive from Kotor (rumours are that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are buying property there), and catch a boat to the 2 islands in the bay that are steeped in local history. Skadar Lake, the largest fresh water lake in Europe is simply stunning and approx 1 hour away from Kotor. Details are provided in the presentation pack. How to get thereFly to Dubrovnik with either BA or Croatia Airways (all year) or Thomson's (Mar-Oct). Kotor is easily reached by hiring a car, taking the bus or by pre-arranged taxi. By car, turn left out of airport, follow the road down across the border and on to Kotor. Just one word of warning...the scenery is just so stunning that you have to work hard at keeping your eyes on the road. Journey time approx 1 1/2 hours. In Summer JAT airlines flies to Tivat from Belgrade, a mere 10 mins drive to Kotor. We use a local car rental company as we prefer to have Montenegran number plates than Croatian. They are extremely competitive and collect and deliver you to the airport.
