Gremos House super cute stone built village house
from £35 /night help
House | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Eot license no.: ar. prot. DOD 0028//05//11//2014
The house is an old house that I had renovated around 3 years ago, and I am constantly improving and adding or changing things to make it better and more suitable. The house is absolutely loved by children as the hidden spaces gives them the idea that they are princes or princesses.
The Gremos house has 2 seperate bedrooms, 1 with a double bed, and one with a bunk bed. The living room has 2 high raised wooden handcarved platform on which a double and a single matress are placed. This is not suitable for less mobile and flexible people. Both these beds are reachable through it's own stairs, and have a seperation and curtains in front of it for privacy. The floor, the wooden ceiling, the arch and the platforms (pataras) are the most typical features of an original Greek, Koskinou house. I have added a sky light for more light and therefore more joy. I chose for this house for a lot of colors on a white basis.
Reachable through the courtyard are the kitchen and the bathroom, both basic but complete and sufficient. the courtyard can also be used for morning breakfast, but just outside of the house, the car free street is used often to have breakfast in the midst of a greek neighborhood. For real dining one can move to the first roof terrace with a dining area and umbrella.
Going further up, one reaches the big roof terrace with a sitting area with matresses and pillows (sometimes used to sleep outside as well), it's sun loungers and the outside shower.
Both roof terraces are covered with flowers, and if one cannot have a happy time in this house, one is not likely to have a happy time anywhere. All that have stayed here have loved it, except for one time when the people were old and i didn't know about it. The narrow stairs are an obstacle for immobile or inflexible people and i will strongly disadvice on renting it. For people with small children, the house has never been a problem. on the top roof terraces there is a gate, and on the down courtyard, we can place an obstacle so that the small ones, will not go onto the stairs.
The most magnificent part of the house is the floor in the living room. It is called chochlakia, and was made in the 19th century, long after the house was built. The pebbles for this floor, all had to have the same size, and were hand picked from the beach, then taken to the house with a donkey, and then hand laid stone for stone in the wonderful mosaic pattern that you can see on the pictures.
The house is located in a residential area, but has no touching neighbors on both sides. The old village of Koskinou remained undiscovered by the majority of tourists, and therefor left unspoilt and authentic. The village has all one would need for a perfect holiday, 3 butchers, some super markets, a creperie, 1 bar, 2 snack bars and 5 really great restaurants, where people know us, and take good care of our guests.
There are some things, that cannot be placed in this booking system, so i will put them down here:
* there is a final cleaning fee of 90 euros.
* there is optional airco available, 2 devices of 5 euros each, so 10 euros per night for the airco.
if these costs can't be placed into the bookings, i will have to charge them locally.

The Dodecanese region
Koskinou village exists of 2 parts. 1 part is the new town, and the other part is the old village as it was for a few 100 years. that part practically stayed the same and has the traditional houses that are protected by law. This is the area that we have all our houses in. I wouldn't be interested in any new part of the town, as it has not the same atmosphere as old villages have.
Koskinou is nicely located. 2 Km away from the beach and about 8-10 km from Rhodes city depending on which part of the city you wish to go to. There is a bus station with buses that regularly go to the city and the beach. Koskinou is located on a hill, as was usual in the old day for strategic reasons, and therefore always has a nice breaze when it's hot in summer time. The old village is quite a lot bigger than expected. One better leaves his car at the church or at the central square and continues on foot as the streets of Koskinou are very narrow, and it takes getting used to to drive a car here, and only the small cars get by. Also a lot of our houses cannot be reached by car until hte house itself. One can get closeby but not right in front of the door. This has as an advantage that one never gets any car noises in front of the house, and the children can play safely on the street.
Koskinou is also closeby Waterpark in Faliraki, and Lindos is about 35 km away.
The area of Gremos house is as the name is translated in GreeK: cliff. it lies on the cliff area at the side of the village. Gremos house has no touching direct neighbors as the houses are inhabited and so one has a lot of privacy. It is not possible to drive exactly in front of the doorstep, but a bit further one can park the car, and walk the stairs down to the house.
In front of the house is a grass field and one can kick a ball or 2. The neighborhood is very friendly and the people around the house, always like to see the house rented as they still have the old attitude to welcome strangers and to exchange a friendly good morning.

"Oh my god ! A beautiful hidden gem."
I booked the house through Gudrun and it was easy. The house was amazing and spotlessly clean. The hire car was waiting for me as arranged with Gudrun and the welcome pack had everything we needed and… More
