“The Iconpainter's Apartments” are in a sleepy quarter of the picturesque village of Koroni. From The Iconpainter's Apartments, everything is within walking distance. The apartments have been sympathetically created from an original Venetian style villa. The house is traditional whitewash with blue shutters. It has a tranquil courtyard where guests can relax and listen to the gentle sound of the fountain trickling into a pool.
There are four one bedroom apartments, all of which are stylish in their furnishings and fully equipped for your every need. There is a double bed with "coc0mat" natural sleeping system mattress, fully equipped kitchen, shower room, indoor and outside seating/dining space. All apartments have air conditioning and wifi internet access.
The upper studios have a balcony to the rear where our guests can sunbathe or dine and a little balcony to the front with wonderful views over the harbour to the mountains beyond. The décor is clean and bright. Blues and whites are prevalent and there are lovely tiled floors.
The studios on the courtyard below are very similar. They do not have a front balcony but have the benefit of a space in the charming courtyard in which to sit by the fountain, dine or just relax.
All of the studios have air conditioning and there are shared laundry facilities. A solar panel and immersion heater provide hot water all year round. One upper apartment has a wood burning stove for winter visitors.
Five minutes stroll takes you to either the magnificent Zaga Beach or to the vibrant village waterfront where there are many tavernas and interesting shops. There is parking 50 meters from the apartments.
Koroni is said to be “one of the the most picturesques villiages in Greece”. It lives up to its reputation in every way. The village is “crowned” by the castle and monastery that both sit together above the village giving it the most beautiful silhouette. It is a wonderful bustling village full of life all year round. Many visitors come in summer but this village has life in every month and season. In Koroni, like the other little villages nearby, you will be welcomed warmly by the local people. You will eat in tavernas where the seafood cooked for you will have been caught that very day. You will be able to choose relaxing on many beautiful and unspoilt beaches such as Zaga, Peroulia, Kombi, Kalamaki and Tsapi to name a few! Remember, Zaga beach is home to the Logga turtle because it is so clean and peaceful. When you want a change from the beach, select from a whole host of attractions. Historical sites, Ancient and Byzantine are found at Messini, Methoni, Koroni, Pylos, Mystras and many more.
The Iconpainter's Apartments are special. There is no better place to stay if a holiday within a real Greek village is your idea of a perfect Greek holiday.

The Messenia Region
Koroni is located on the southern tip of the Peloponnese - the southern most part of the Greek mainland. The picturesque village nestles below the ruins of a Venetian fort which now houses a charming monastery.
The harbour front is lined with traditional tavernas and a cafes and is just a few minutes walk from the apartments. In the other direction, again just a few minutes walk through the village is the famous Zaga beach, nesting ground of the Logga turtle, and 3km of unspoilt sandy beach.
Koroni has been nominated by UNESCO as one of four Mediterranean towns which represent the Mediterranean diet. this is because of the excellent local cuisine and the wide variety of food which is locally produced - from superb extra virgin olive oil, the famous Kalamata olive, unique dried figs, locally made pasta and of course local fish and seafood which you can buy on the harbour front every day direct from the fisherman.
From Koroni all the major visitor sites of the Peloponnese are reachable by car in a day - Methoni castle, Pylos Lagoon, Olympia, Ancient Messini, Epidaurus, Mystras, Mycenae, the Nemea wine region, The Mani.......

"Nicely furnished apartment, great location, very helpful hosts."
We had a very relaxing holiday. The icon painter apartment was super, really well situated within a few minutes walk of the beautiful Zaga beach to one side and the harbour and restaurants to the other. The apartment was just right, comfortable bed, lovely kitchen with everything you need, good quality pans etc. they even supply beach towels! And proper cotton sheets. Michael and Maria are very helpful and available, and supplied delicious samples of their home produced oil and preserves. We will definitely return next year!

I am sorry that it has taken me so long to wrie a review for our wonderful holiday in August at the Iconpainter apartments. I loved our stay in Koroni and this was a great location, only 10 minutes walk from the lovely clean and relatively quiet Zaga beach. The space was perfect for a couple and a 2 year old and our son and our friends' daughter really enjoyed playing in the little fountain in the courtyard. The bed was so comfortable and I don't have a single complaint to make. Michael and Maria also took great care of us, passing by regularly and we enjoyed the complemetary olive oil . I definitely recommend it and hope one day to try out Michael and Maria's villas. I was also very happy about our decision to stay in that area (we travelled to Pilos afterwards) because on the ferry back we met a lot of people who had stayed on the islands, which were overcrowded in Augus,t while we found quiet beaches and tables at restaurants wherever we went.

"A place to return to"
We have now stayed six times with The iconpainter. And we will certainly return to live in one of the beautiful apartments . What can be described as the architect's dream has now. become even more beautiful, especially with the new very comfortable grands lits and the very nice bathroom and kitchen. We certainly come back as usual!

We had an excellent stay at The Iconpainter apartments. They are superbly positioned for both the village and the beach. Everything you need has been expertly provided. The apartments are located in a quiet part of the village with virtually no passing traffic. All very comfortable and extremely clean. Even during the hotest days when we got back the rooms keep extremely cool. I would definately reccommend both the apartments and the destination if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday, but be prepared to put on a little weight the pastry shops are fantastic. Over the years we have travelled to many Greek destinations both mainland and island and we both agreed if we did return to any Koroni and the Iconpainter apartments would be the one. All the restaurants / Tavernas we visited during our 2 week stay were good infact the portions served were far too much. The beach again was easy to get to and the hire of beds and brolly very cheap compared to other destinations. There is a little corner shop on the way to the beach which serves fresh daily bread fantastic.

"Views from the bed were stunning!"
Really enjoyed our stay in Koroni and at the Icon Painter Apartments. They were comfortably furnished and we were very well looked after. The apartments are nicely situated down a little lane with relatively easy access to the beach and into town. We stayed on the top floor and to wake up and look at the sea every morning from the bed was a lasting memory of our stay in this pretty little place.

"Fine simple apartment in cracking wee town."
We stayed for a week in the Icon Painter's Apartment and found it superb for our purposes. While their apartments outside town are luxurious, the apartments are simple and to the point. We were in an upstairs apartment, which has considerably better views than the lower. There is a beautiful view from the small sea-facing balcony (unfortunately too small to sit at but great to wake up to.) The main balcony is a good place to eat or have a drink before heading down to one of the fine sea-front restaurants. It has a pleasant view of the street, all old houses, and of the town above. The old neighbour shouts "Kalimera" to you every morning. The interior is simple, essentially a long corridor divided into bedroom and sitting room / dining room. There's air conditioning but we didn't use it as the through draught and the design of the old Venetian house kept us cool enough. There was a new bed which was very comfortable and the kitchen facilities were excellent. The apartment has a great situation, 5 minutes above the harbour. It's on the ridge which separates the town from the fine Zaga beach, 10 minutes in the other direction. Koroni's a great wee town with good restaurants and, if you're cooking yourself, fine local produce. The owners are very hospitable. They produce their own olives, olive oil and wine. Maria's a bit uncharitable about Michael's wine but we found it went down well at sunset. All in all a great place to stay.

"The picture of Greece"
The view from the kitchen is stunning. We had our breakfeasts in front of the french balkony looking out over the port of Koroni. That´s just so nice. The studio is bright an clean. When we arrived late in the afternoon after a day on the bus from Athen we were so welcomed by Michael and Maria After a few day we almost felt that we had our "own" Greek home :) I can really recommend The Iconpainter.

We loved everything but most of all the wonderful view across the gulf to the Mani, the sunrise and the reflected glow of sunset. The house is lovely, the studio well-equipped with a nice marble table for breakfast. It is very convenient to have a washing-machine in the courtyard. The harbour is easy tp walk down to in the evening with nice restaurants and cafes. The owners do not live on site but are easily joined and willing to fix any problems. They are friendly and knowledgeable about the region. We had a great stay and would love to go back especially in May with all the flowers and green.
