“The Iconpainter's Apartments” are in a sleepy quarter of the picturesque village of Koroni. From The Iconpainter's Apartments, everything is within walking distance. The apartments have been sympathetically created from an original Venetian style villa. The house is traditional whitewash with blue shutters. It has a tranquil courtyard where guests can relax and listen to the gentle sound of the fountain trickling into a pool.

There are four one bedroom apartments, all of which are stylish in their furnishings and fully equipped for your every need. There is a double bed with "coc0mat" natural sleeping system mattress, fully equipped kitchen, shower room, indoor and outside seating/dining space. All apartments have air conditioning and wifi internet access.

The upper studios have a balcony to the rear where our guests can sunbathe or dine and a little balcony to the front with wonderful views over the harbour to the mountains beyond. The décor is clean and bright. Blues and whites are prevalent and there are lovely tiled floors.

The studios on the courtyard below are very similar. They do not have a front balcony but have the benefit of a space in the charming courtyard in which to sit by the fountain, dine or just relax.

All of the studios have air conditioning and there are shared laundry facilities. A solar panel and immersion heater provide hot water all year round. One upper apartment has a wood burning stove for winter visitors.

Five minutes stroll takes you to either the magnificent Zaga Beach or to the vibrant village waterfront where there are many tavernas and interesting shops. There is parking 50 meters from the apartments.

Koroni is said to be “one of the the most picturesques villiages in Greece”. It lives up to its reputation in every way. The village is “crowned” by the castle and monastery that both sit together above the village giving it the most beautiful silhouette. It is a wonderful bustling village full of life all year round. Many visitors come in summer but this village has life in every month and season. In Koroni, like the other little villages nearby, you will be welcomed warmly by the local people. You will eat in tavernas where the seafood cooked for you will have been caught that very day. You will be able to choose relaxing on many beautiful and unspoilt beaches such as Zaga, Peroulia, Kombi, Kalamaki and Tsapi to name a few! Remember, Zaga beach is home to the Logga turtle because it is so clean and peaceful. When you want a change from the beach, select from a whole host of attractions. Historical sites, Ancient and Byzantine are found at Messini, Methoni, Koroni, Pylos, Mystras and many more.

The Iconpainter's Apartments are special. There is no better place to stay if a holiday within a real Greek village is your idea of a perfect Greek holiday.

Koroni

Koroni is located on the southern tip of the Peloponnese - the southern most part of the Greek mainland. The picturesque village nestles below the ruins of a Venetian fort which now houses a charming monastery.

The harbour front is lined with traditional tavernas and a cafes and is just a few minutes walk from the apartments. In the other direction, again just a few minutes walk through the village is the famous Zaga beach, nesting ground of the Logga turtle, and 3km of unspoilt sandy beach.

Koroni has been nominated by UNESCO as one of four Mediterranean towns which represent the Mediterranean diet. this is because of the excellent local cuisine and the wide variety of food which is locally produced - from superb extra virgin olive oil, the famous Kalamata olive, unique dried figs, locally made pasta and of course local fish and seafood which you can buy on the harbour front every day direct from the fisherman.

From Koroni all the major visitor sites of the Peloponnese are reachable by car in a day - Methoni castle, Pylos Lagoon, Olympia, Ancient Messini, Epidaurus, Mystras, Mycenae, the Nemea wine region, The Mani.......

We have addressed the issues raised in this review. There is free wifi in all apartments. At the time of this guest booking we did not have wifi and did not advertise it. We had just installed it when he arrived and did not see the guest to give him the access code personally.
Regarding sitting by the window and watching the sunset, we have addressed this by providing a table here so guests can now sit and enjoy the view from both sides of the apartment.

"Views from the bed were stunning!"

Really enjoyed our stay in Koroni and at the Icon Painter Apartments. They were comfortably furnished and we were very well looked after. The apartments are nicely situated down a little lane with relatively easy access to the beach and into town. We stayed on the top floor and to wake up and look at the sea every morning from the bed was a lasting memory of our stay in this pretty little place.

"Fine simple apartment in cracking wee town."

We stayed for a week in the Icon Painter's Apartment and found it superb for our purposes. While their apartments outside town are luxurious, the apartments are simple and to the point. We were in an upstairs apartment, which has considerably better views than the lower. There is a beautiful view from the small sea-facing balcony (unfortunately too small to sit at but great to wake up to.) The main balcony is a good place to eat or have a drink before heading down to one of the fine sea-front restaurants. It has a pleasant view of the street, all old houses, and of the town above. The old neighbour shouts "Kalimera" to you every morning.

The interior is simple, essentially a long corridor divided into bedroom and sitting room / dining room. There's air conditioning but we didn't use it as the through draught and the design of the old Venetian house kept us cool enough. There was a new bed which was very comfortable and the kitchen facilities were excellent.

The apartment has a great situation, 5 minutes above the harbour. It's on the ridge which separates the town from the fine Zaga beach, 10 minutes in the other direction. Koroni's a great wee town with good restaurants and, if you're cooking yourself, fine local produce.

The owners are very hospitable. They produce their own olives, olive oil and wine. Maria's a bit uncharitable about Michael's wine but we found it went down well at sunset.

All in all a great place to stay.

"The picture of Greece"

The view from the kitchen is stunning. We had our breakfeasts in front of the french balkony looking out over the port of Koroni. That´s just so nice. The studio is bright an clean. When we arrived late in the afternoon after a day on the bus from Athen we were so welcomed by Michael and Maria After a few day we almost felt that we had our "own" Greek home :) I can really recommend The Iconpainter.
