If you arrive late we'll leave the key in the door for you to let yourself in. We don't have the internet but we pop out to the the cafes at the beach and in Koroni to use the free wi-fi there and recommend that you do too. The mobile phone signals are very good in the area so Kindle users can get a good enough signal to buy a new book and check their email from the terrace.
Further details outdoors:
The best exterior facility we have is the Sea and the olive groves and friendly local villages which serve fresh vegetables and fruit that you can taste We chose not to have a swimming pool so that Saintfridays is quiet and peaceful.
The beach is so close that we chose not to have a swimming pool, they tend to be not that clean and noisy, ok when you're in them but not so when you're not. Gargarou means to clean with water, fresh water springs bubble up under the sea water. All the locals use our nearest beach, where there is a spring fed fresh water shower. Catch up on the gossip early in the morning with the old people from the village swimming and chatting in the water in their hats and a little after midday the younger people and the families come down. (A short walk along the beach the sand widens out, and this is where the Europeans tend to go. There are a couple of tavernas along there, selling food, cold drinks and ice-creams - plus if you take your laptop you get a pretty decent signal in the free wi-fi provided there.
If you like sailing - tell us in advance and we will help you book a day out with Aneka our dutch friend who charges 50 euros per person per day including lunch for unforgettable days out. She gets everyone involved and before the day is out you've joined the sailing fraternity. If you are an experienced sailor let Aneka know and she will let you take as much responsibility as you like.

The Peloponnese region
We are at the bottom of the Peloponnese, on the Messinian peninsular, a peninsular, off a peninsular which is at the bottom of the Balkan peninsular. You can almost go no further south in mainland Europe. But the Peloponnese is a huge under visited area with the world famous ancient sites at Olympia, Sparta, Argos, Mycenae, Nestors Palace, as well the slightly less ancient Messene and even less old but no less impressive as the final end of the Roman Empire at Mystras.
And the area is bathed in that legendary light and sunshine, desserted beaches, a warm, old fashioned welcome and great food come. And yet the whole of the Peloponnese, a much larger land area, gets only about 10% of the tourists that either Crete or Cyprus normally expect. So it is quiet. It doesn't do English beer and all day breakfasts and not many people speak English.
So saintfridays is located in Messenia, in the heart of this ancient region, surrounded by sites from Mycenaean, Roman, Venetian, Byzantine and Ottoman periods and yet it has few visitors. For history buffs, walkers, beach lovers, the area is a treasure of peace, calm and anchronism; explore or rexation, explore and rexation but take a hat, some water and some high factor sun cream.
The Koroni / Charakopio area
Koroni is a village built around the donkey, up and down steps, in and out of tiny narrow alleyways, in and around its castle and its many churches. It is built on its own little peninsular, off the Messinian peninsular and into the gulf facing the Mani. It's strategic location has meant that every army that has occupied Greece has left its mark in the town and in the castle.
Most recently the Germans left some precarious looking cracks in the most Easterly facing turret, having filled it with unwanted explosives and blew it up before leaving the town and the country in 1944. The town has two very different beach areas, one in the north and one in the south. Visiting it, Rough Guides claims, is one of the 40 things not to miss in Greece.
There are restaurants and bars and a lot of people speak English here. Charakopio is much more a locals village, not many people speak English here but you can eat and drink well and cheaper than in Koroni (or almost anywhere else in Greece) and its a real village, an agricultural village and in ancient times an industrial village because it was here that they made the pots, many of which were to litter Monte Testaccio in Rome, the great clay pots for transporting olive oil around the Mediterranean and to all of the known world.
