The Chania Prefecture region
Kolimbari northwest of Chania.
It lies 25 kilometers from the city of Chania and is accessed from the new national and the old highway.
It is a seaside village with 5500 inhabitants. In the village there is sufficient accommodation, nice restaurants by the sea, and cafes.
The sea with its deep and clear waters, is spread over a vast beach and summer attracts many tourists and locals.
In Kolymbari the Orthodox Academy of Crete, where there are many national and international conferences of general interest.
Here also lies the Monastery of Our Lady, a great old monastery built on the cliff edge, which celebrates the 15 year Avgoustou.Kathe. On this day is one of the greatest shrines of the county, and blot Tranos festival in the region, close to many people.
Whether you are an adventurous traveler or you are interested in a more calm and relaxing stay, Crete offers a huge variety of activities that can suit every taste. We at Xristinas Apartment can help you plan your holiday (e.g. organize your daily excursions, give you helpful tips for attractive places to visit, arrange the below activities):
It doesn't matter if you are a pro or an amateur; Crete offers a huge selection of diving excursions that will match your level. Cave-diving, Wreck-diving, Reef-diving you name it! http://www.chaniadiving.gr/
With over 58 peaks over 2000m and the longest gorge in Europe, the Samaria gorge, Chania is the hikers “El Dorado”. Slip into your boots and get ready to explore the Cretan wildlife and unspoilt nature.
A number of routes that are combining the idyllic landscape with the Cretan culture are awaiting you to discover them. Bring your own bike or arrange a bike rental locally and explore Crete on two wheels. http://www.sphellas.com/index.php/REGULATIONS/1/357
For those who wish to spend their holiday relaxing at exotic beaches and swim in crystal clear waters, Crete will certainly suit them. Balos lagoon, Falassarna and Elafonissi are only few of 27 beaches awarded a blue flag for their supreme water quality.
Crete is the largest Greek island and the 5th largest in the Mediterranean Sea. It is here where the western couture was born and flourished. The numerous archeological findings of the Minoan era are certifying this.
This blessed place gives the visitor the chance to evolve, either through cultural and entertaining activities or by discovering the Cretan wild nature by hiking and trekking, especially in the western part of the island.
West –Crete is shaped by its “Lefka Ori” mountain range, which consists of 58 peaks that extend over 2000m. This mountain landscape is dominated by innumerable gorges that reach the Libyan Sea. The most known is the “Samaria” gorge, that is also the longest and deepest in Europe.
The most poetic city of Crete leaves you with a pleasant taste of beauty when you walk through. Built on the ruins of ancient Cydonia has seen and survived many invaders, but has also tasted civilizations and their marks on building faces, castles, walls, antiquities, monasteries and churches
The city has two entrances: the airport of Akrotiri, and the port of Souda (the largest in the Mediterranean). Dominant position in the center holds the municipal market, a brilliant cross-shaped building which was completed in 1913, and in proportion of Marseille.
In walking distance from the center of the city awaits the Public Garden and adjacent to the Park of Peace and Friendship between peoples. The gardens are the prettiest in Crete, and also the public garden has a small zoo with animals from Cretan fauna.
The Venetian port picturesque any time and season is attractive to visitors and locals, both for its beauty and for the choices of entertainment for all tastes and demands. The old city "intramural" districts preserve their Venetian nobility. Narrow paved alleys are surrounded with tasteful renewed houses of various ages, are offered for a pleasant stroll. Many neoclassic houses are also saved in districts which "neighbor" with the city of Chania, like Halepa.

"Can't wait to go again"
We had a wonderful holiday here in April and have been recommending it to friends and family. The apartment met all our expectations from the photos, description and other travellers reviews. It is such a comfortable, well equipped and relaxing place to be. We loved the sea views from the balcony and the roof terrace. Xristina promised to show us Cretan hospitality and she certainly did. She was so welcoming, generous and helpful, providing eggs, oranges, home made cake, biscuits and other produce. Nothing was too much trouble. She arranged a transfer from the airport, called during the week to check if we needed anything, suggested the best beaches to visit, took us on a short trip to nearby Vuves and arranged car hire for us at a very good rate. The location is good with tavernas nearby, and a supermarket and small shops a short walk away. We were told we could use the swimming pool at a nearby beach resort, though did not have time in the end! There is plenty to see in Western Crete, some of which can be accessed by bus, but we were glad we hired a car to get to some lovely beaches, the Botanical gardens and mountains. Chania is a lovely town to visit.

"Fabulous Holiday in wonderful apartment!"
Had a fabulous 2 week holiday in this apartment. As mentioned in previous reviews the views are stunning and the roof top terrace is simply the icing on a fantastic cake! Loved sitting out in the balcony for breakfast or simply people watching. The apartment is well equipped and spacious. The apartment is brilliantly situated for local restaurants all of which we visited and found to be of a very high standard and all serving fresh Cretan food which we found delicious.........although we found the lunch portion sizes a bit too much for us. Next time we'll share! Thanks to Xristina & Stavros for their hospitality (and to Stella for looking after us!) Several times during our stay they brought us fresh supplies from their farm, eggs, tomatoes, peppers and grapes, all of which tasted so much better than we are used to from supermarkets back home!! Thanks for your leaving gifts, so kind and thoughtful. If you are thinking about booking this apartment..... do it!! We will definitely be back. Derek & Maureen

"Vacation like vacation should be"
Our holliday started at home. We didn't have to pay a deposit and Xristina arranged a car for us. The man from the car rental escorted us to the appartment because our luagage didn't fit in the car. As we arrived Xristina was waiting for us. and showed us all the the things we need to know about the appartment and she even made oliveoil, jam raki for us and also olives and fresh eggs from the farm. Xristina is so relaxed and you can ask her almost everything. Nothing is too much for her. She also knows a lot about site seeing trips and local restaurants. The restaurant below is very good and the people are very friendly. We stayed for 2 weeks and we will definitely go back to enjoy the great view and hospitality of Xristina.

We loved the apartment and we love Xristina and her family! The apartment has a wonderful view of nothing but ocean, a great veranda and there is even a rooftop terrace with a barbecue. Everything we needed was there, it's really nice to have a good washingmachine when travelling with kids. It was clean and tidy and has good firm beds. So, everything was great, but the best thing about the place was Xristina herself!

This is the best part of Crete that you should visit! All the best views and the sights are located from this part of the island! And Xristina and her friends can help you for any question to make your holiday as comfortable as possible. We spent an unforgettable holiday - and we guarantee that everyone will agree with us

"Fantastic apartment, brilliant holiday!"
The apartment was big, clean and beautifully positioned by the sea. The town was well fitted out with excellent restaurants. Xristina and her husband Stavros were so welcoming to us. They advised us on where was best to go and even came round and cooked us dinner (they asked us first)! A truly memorable holiday.

We had a lovely stay at Xristina's appartment. We were on holiday as two couples and so the lay out of the flat worked well for us - as there are two bedrooms and we were able to move the two twin beds together. The apartment was very clean and had a beautiful view of the sea from the lounge and one of the bedrooms. The only thing was that we had to keep bedroom doors open because it was a hot time of the year and the air con is in the main lounge/ kitchen. There is a string of great restaurants and cafes along the sea front in Kolymbari, the place below the flat was particularly good and everyone we met was very friendly. Xristina even cooked an amazing (and massive!) meal for us one night, showing us some proper Cretan hospitality :) I would definitely recommend a stay, though definitely hire a car so you can get to some of the better beaches on this side of the island. And definitely visit Chania at night it's beautiful.
