Recently built in traditional Cretan style incorporating local stone and cypress wood, Villa Keramika has been thoughtfully and comfortably furnished by its English owners. Much of the furniture has been made locally using wood which matches the beamed ceilings, windows, doors, shutters and pergolas. The fragrant cypress wood ceilings, pretty stone arches and fireplace, framed black and white prints of yesteryear Crete, icons of saints, and terracotta clay pots filled with dried lavender give the villa a very homely feel.
These traditional features blend perfectly with every modern comfort that you could wish for including satellite TV, DVD and CD players, cooker with ceramic hob, dishwasher, washing machine, barbeque, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms. The a/c units also double up as heaters, and there is central heating and a fireplace for the cooler nights early and late season, or for an extended winter stay. In consideration of the environment there is solar powered hot water with a back-up emersion heater. Total relaxation is guaranteed at Villa Keramika with a large library of books, DVD’s and CD’s, binoculars for watching birds or the ships in the bay, torches for walking to the village at night, and a cool-box for day trips to secluded beaches.

Villa Keramika has one immediately adjacent villa which does not overlook the vast majority of the property, and one neighbour set on a terrace above and behind the villa that can only slightly see part of the pool terrrace. The spacious covered front terrace leads out from the living area and downstairs bedroom and is equipped with comfortable armchairs and a dining table. The 2 large balconies that lead out from the upstairs bedrooms are both equipped with tables and chairs, and the pool terrace is furnished with sun-beds and umbrellas. In order to ensure the safety of the smaller members of the family (and the peace of mind for the adult family members) the large pool terrace and the built-in stone barbeque area have each been separated from the villa by railings and gates. The barbeque area is located under a pergola that provides shade.
Despite the quiet countrified location Villa Keramika is only 10 minutes from the sandy beaches, and many excellent tavernas and shops in Almyrida.
Internet access is available via a USB stick that can be rented from the local agent's office.
We ask for a deposit of 20% on villas with a total rental price of 1000.00 Euros or more, and 200.00 Euros for villas with a total rental price of less than 1000.00 Euros, with the final balance paid 10 weeks before your arrival date. We accept payments via bank transfer or with personal Visa or Mastercard.
The Chania Prefecture region
Crete has everything you that could possibly want from a holiday: soaring mountains that are snow capped from November to June, many great walking trails including Europe's deepest gorge, ancient archaeological sites and Minoan palaces, quaint villages, sparkling clear blue seas with tavernas serving freshly caught fish, golden beaches, glorious wild flowers in the Spring, and a variety of delicious foods which are all made from healthy home grown produce.
As incredible as the island is, it is the Cretan people who will make your holiday truly memorable. Descendants of the Minoan's, one of Europe's earliest civilizations, and shaped by centuries of struggle against oppression, the Cretans are as rugged as the mountains, fiercely independent but passionately friendly.
Villa Keramika is located in the heart of The Apokoronas Region just east of the beautiful town of Chania. With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind Chania's harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand made ceramics. Visit 'Leather Lane' for outstanding hand made leather bargains.
The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate and the weather is characterized by long hot, dry summers and mild winters. The Spring can be warm and sunny during the day but still have cooler evenings and is perfect for walking, birdwatching and looking at the wild flowers. All in all Crete is absolutely perfect for your Villa holiday.
Kokkino Horio main taverna and mini market a 8 -10 minute walk from Villa Keramika. The family run-taverna is shaded by weeping willow trees, and has delicious food and very friendly owners (Zacharias and his son Yiannis) who know everything about the village and the surrounding area. During the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna (once a month or so), which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. At the village kafenion you can find older locals who were used as extras in the film, and they will happily show you photos of themselves with Anthony Quinn. Just 15 minutes walk from Villa Keramika is the famous glass blowing workshop which has a taverna with organic food and wine. Here you can watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner, into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls. A third taverna with excellent views is on the outskirts of the village.
The lovely village of Almyrida is only 4km from Villa Keramika, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 7 excellent tavernas, 10 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops, a pharmacy, an organic fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, a butcher's shop, an off-license (liquor store), and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, boat trips, horse riding, and guided walks and coach excursions. Also in Almyrida there is a scuba diving office, and a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and a scuba diving office.
A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 - 40 minutes away by car.
Cooking classes and wine tasting set at a local winery can be taken by those of you who are interested. Guided walks led by experts in mountaineering and/or flora and fauna can also be arranged. For those of you who prefer to venture out on your own, a free copy of the guide book "Crete on the Road" by Frankie Miles comes with every villa. The book contains detailed directions to many well known and hidden sites, opening times and prices for all attractions, taverna recommendations, and the only existing map of the National Highway showing the exits and entrances.

"It was absolutely fabulous."
Lovely villa, so well stocked with everything you would use at home. The views are to die for. We loved the pool and lazing around admiring the view, playing with the inflatables supplied was great fun. Easy drive to town where there are lovely restaurants. Cannot fault really, we had a really great holiday.
