Satori – a home from home in the heart of paradise.

Set high on a hill, overlooking the jungle-covered contours of Southern Sri Lanka, Satori Villa is within easy reach of a coastline of stunning soft sand beaches, World Heritage Site Galle Fort and two hours from the capital city, Colombo. Recommended by Condé Nast and Harper's Bazaar, our Dutch-style colonial villa sleeps up to eight in four-poster bedrooms of traditional Sri Lankan style, providing a luxurious home from home experience.

A gentle and inspiring natural environment, Satori offers guests the opportunity to rediscover real peace and relaxation. Lush tropical gardens surround the villa, their fruit trees alive with chattering monkeys and birds darting from the branches overhead, while a carp-filled pond hugs the terrace with simple tranquility. Relax in our infinity pool, work out the knots with a massage or just swing gently in a hammock on the verandah listening to a cricket chorus under a star-clustered sky.

The villa is fully staffed, with a chef on hand and warm service from our gracious and attentive staff. Whether you're a honeymoon couple, a family or a group of friends in need of a break from a hectic modern life you'll find a unique experience in this corner of paradise. We invite you to step out of the everyday and into the extraordinary.

The Sri Lanka Southern Coast region

Satori villa is situated in the village of Unawatuna in Southern Province of Sri Lanka 4 kms beyond the Unesco World Heritage site Galle.

nearby 3 kms is the world famous Unawatuna Beach and further beyond km's and km's of unspoilt picture perfect white sandy beaches.

The main town is the historic Galle Fort.

Koggala

Galle Fort was established by the Portuguese in the C15th, and was completed by the Dutch 100 years later. The British came in the C18th, and in 1988 it was designated a World Heritage Site.

The narrow streets of Galle Fort are lined with Dutch merchant villas, with pillared verandahs, carved doors and windows. Offices dating back to the Dutch and British periods are still in use today.

A stroll along the streets or along the ramparts offers the visitor a unique insight into a patchwork of bustling life - Buddhists, Tamils, Muslims and Europeans all living in harmony - commerce such as lace-makers and jewelers alongside tourists, and the ever present cricket match!

One of the great joys of the Fort is to visit the Ramparts around sunset, a popular activity for local and tourist alike!

Galle Town just beside the Galle Fort (on the other side of the cricket pitch) is best explored on foot, or by tuk tuk. It is a sprawling metropolis, with the exotic fruit market to the myriad of shops in Main Street, selling everything from sarees to televisions!

Mirissa Water Sports Centre has a 54 ft Indonesian fishing trawler for sports fishing & coastal cruises, as well as a 24ft gaff rigged for bay sailing. Blue whale watching is also an activity well worth undertaking between November to May.

Scuba Diving - There is a dive centre at Unawatuna, run by Sumith. They provide advanced and beginner courses, as well as night dives.

Guided Bike Tours - Galle resident Alex Barrett will take you on a number of unforgettable bikes ride through paddy fields, thru jungle and temples. Suitable for all ages & all levels! Trips usually last between 1.5 to 4 hours and you really have the opportunity to see a slice of Sri Lankan village life.

Turtle Sanctuary - There are several in the area, including a particularly well run one in Habaraduwa about 15 minutes away.

Kogala Lake Sunset Tour - If you like sunsets, vaste expanses of water, 1000's of birds & bats flying to a single island in the middle of the lake to settle in for the night then this is the tour for you and you can go for dinner at the Fortress Hotel afterwards.

Surfing – There are a number of surf schools in the area locale as well as nice spots in Unawatuna, Wijiya and Marissa further down the coast.

Tea Estate and Factory - The Handunugoda Estate is 40 minutes away and provides a fascinating tour for visitors, highlighting the production of white tea.

Yala Safari Park - Leave Galle at 03:00 hrs and get to Yala for sunrise. Sightings of leopard are good, along with lots of elephants, sloth bears & crocodiles. Head back to Galle, with a stop at one of the beaches near Tangalle to break your journey.

Temples – Being a predominately Buddhist Culture you will find temples are everywhere. Particularly interesting are the ones at Yatagala and Kalatuwa. Be warned that all temples are crowded on Poya days (Full moon). Dress code is very important so please remember to remove shoes, cover shoulders , cleavage and any flesh from above knees.
