The Western Cape region
This is a strip of land like no other in the world in terms of beauty, natural attractions and unique flora and fauna - hence its name. Three of South Africa’s top hikes take place here - the Otter Trail and the Tsitsikama and Dolphin trails and man’s footprint has made little impact on the rugged and sometimes inaccessible coastline. The Garden Route is a paradise for eco-lovers, bird watchers and solitude seekers and one of the most beautiful parts of the Western Cape.
There are numerous wonderful day tours and sightseeing trips to be done around the Garden Route and environs. Link from here to our detailed listing or select Transport, Tours and Travel from the menu above. This section includes car hire companies, airlines, charter flights, and various other exciting travel opportunities.
The Garden Route has a Mediterranean Maritime climate, with moderately hot summers, and mild to chilly winters. It is one of the richest rainfall areas, most of which occurs in the winter months, brought by the humid sea-winds from the Indian ocean. Any time of the year is good for visiting the Garden Route area, depending if you enjoy a peaceful retreat during the winter months, or a bustling holiday destination during the summer.

Further details indoors: Inside meets outside - the house is built in a "light and airy" contemporary style, creating a sense of openness and freshness through the property's large aluminium panoramic windows and sliding doors. Partial sea views and the surrounding valley emphasises the property's unique uninterrupted location. The house is superbly interior decorated and is detailed throughout with classical "bellou" wood, which compliments the property's travetine finishing. Built in two wings, with the pool nestled in between, the house makes for entertaining guests for any occasion.
Conditions
The precise origin of the word Knysna is uncertain, but the most popular meaning is “straight down” – referring to the Knysna Heads. The Heads are two great sandstone cliffs which guard the mouth of the lagoon connecting the river mouth to the sea, offering spectacular views and boat rides. For those who feel like something adventurous, Plettenburg Bay offers the world’s highest bungee jump. An oyster hatchery is housed in the Knysna lagoon reputedly producing some of the tastiest oysters in the world.
Knysna is surrounded by various forests and resorts which provide excellent opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities, such as hiking, beautiful picnic spots and bird watching. Nature's Valley, also know as the Garden of Eden, houses the famous Big Tree and a diverse variety of tree species, whilst the Knysna Forest is well known for historically being the roaming grounds of a vast number of elephants and wildlife.
