The Western Cape region
The property is situated on the world renown N2 Garden Route from Port Elizabeth [270kms East] and Cape Town 400kms West. A mecca for golfers with 20 golf courses [many championship] situated within a 60 km radius of the house.
The Western Cape is in the south-western corner of South Africa. It is world famous as the home of Wine lands, The Garden Route, Whale Watching in Hermanus and of course Cape Town with it’s Table Mountain.
The Garden Route runs along the N2 motorway from Cape Town through to Port Elizabeth. The scenery is stunning with mountains, forests and lakes falling to the blue Indian Ocean fringed by white sandy beaches.
The Garden Route includes one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline that winds its way for some 200 km via George, Wilderness, Sedgefield and Knysna on to Plettenberg Bay and culminating in the Tstisikamma Forest. A wide range of leisure options, spectacular scenery and a mild climate, guarantee an unforgettable holiday experience when visiting the Garden Route in South Africa.
Nestled between the impressive Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, Knysna has a rich history tracing back to the days of sailing ships and even a brief period of gold discovery! A beautiful lagoon lies in the heart of the Knysna protected from the sea by the monolithic sandstone Heads and encircled by forest.
Knysna / Belvidere Heights area
Knysna really does offer something for everyone. Relax in the sun, take walks through the cool forest or a scenic drive. For the adventurous the worlds highest bungee jump is half an hour away by car! A ride on the Outeniqua Tjoe Choo steam train is well worth the experience or a candlelit dinner on the lagoon makes for a holiday to remember. Knysna's rich and colourful history spans the days of sailing ships, timber extraction and even a brief period of gold discovery.
The vast, indigenous forests just outside Knysna became an invaluable source of timber for buildings, ships and wagons from the mid- 1700's onwards, and provided the historical background around which Knysna was built.
Today, the forests are protected and the lagoon, which provides a safe, sheltered harbour, has become the focal point of activity for both locals and visitors.
Knysna has lots of shops which provide for all a shopper's needs. There are supermarkets, boutiques, restaurants, coffee bars, pharmacies and a host of specialised shops.
As a result of a relaxed lifestyle, Knysna has, over the years, attracted a wide variety of artists, creating an artists' paradise. There are numerous galleries where one can enjoy the local arts and crafts and appreciate the talent and work that is produced here.
Knysna has a gentle climate with an average annual rainfall of 920mm, spread throughout the year, with 75% falling at night. Summer daytime temperatures average 26 degrees. Winter temperatures average 21 degrees during the day, and seldom fall below 6 degrees at night.
Our Lodge is in an ideal location for a family holiday or for golfing enthusiasts who will be able to play championship golf courses of Pezula and Simola plus other excellent golf courses nearby - Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Goose Valley and George. There are also excellent spa and gym facilities at Pezula and Simola and beauty treatments for those wishing to be pampered.
