The Western Cape region

Situated on the south-western tip of Africa, the Western Cape is the meeting point of the cold Atlantic and the warm Indian Oceans. Its capital city Cape Town, is dominated by the flat-topped bulk of Table Mountain.

Today, the province boasts South Africa’s fifth largest population, numbering in the region of 4.5 million inhabitants.

The Western Cape is in the south-western corner of the old Cape Province. Popular in the Western Cape are the Wine lands, The Garden Route, Whale Watching in Hermanus and of course Cape Town. One aspect, for which the Western Cape is unique, is the extraordinary flora called Fynbos.

The Garden Route runs from Cape Town through to Port Elizabeth. The scenery is stunning with mountains, forests and lakes falling to the blue Indian Ocean fringed by white sandy beaches. The temperature varies from an average of 16deg in winter to 30deg in summer. Days in mid winter can still often be in the 20's


Knysna / Thesen Island area

Go golfing, cycling, swimming, walking, sunbathing, boating, fishing, elephant, bird and whale watching. Hop aboard the Outeniqua Tjoe Choo steam train – one of the most scenic train journeys in the world, following the Indian Ocean coast line and winding up through the forests to Wilderness and George.

Take a romantic evening boat trip and enjoy a candlelit dinner on the lagoon. Alternatively, the world’s highest bungee jump is half an hour away by car. Surfing/abseiling/kite surfing/water skiing/ off roading/mountain biking/canoeing are all available within a 20 minute drive.

There’s a huge amount of local craft shops in the vicinity of The Oyster Festival in July and Gastronomica Festival in September are both worth a visit.

Fly to George via Johannesburg or Cape Town. Travelling from George to Knysna (65km), turn right at first robot in Knysna into Waterfront Drive. Turn right into Long Street, driver over bridge. After travelling a further 50 metres, turn left into Thesen Islands. Drive through security with Fairmile Street. Drive three quarter around first circle, over two bridges at end turn right, drive straight on till T15 in front.

There are safe walking pathways all around the island – ideal for walking, jogging or cycling. Thesen Island has a private marina beach for the exclusive use of island residents, guests and visitors.

Bird life is abundant, especially around the ponds in the Park and Bird Reserve area. Thesen Harbour Town is a short walk away, where there are a number of good restaurants and other interesting shops. The Knysna Quays Waterfront is close by and there are several golf courses in the area. Knysna is central to explore the whole of the Garden Route.

T15 is situated on the Dry Mills, one of the Thesen Islands private estates in the Knysna Lagoon. The island is connected to the main land by a long course way and the community is gated, 24 hour access control and CCTV, making the Island private and secure.

Off the deck is a private jetty, which can be used for boating, fishing and canoe-ing.

T15 sleeps four in luxury. The two bedrooms are equipped with two Queen Size beds. A sleeper coach with linen is available for two children
