Home description
Blue Savannah is located on Thesen Island in the beautiful Knysna Lagoon. Surrounded on three sides by hillside forests and on the fourth by the Indian Ocean, Knysna has been consistently voted South Africa's favourite holiday destination. It has a busy high street area, shopping centre, bars and restaurants along with two world class golf courses.
The house has four bedrooms all opening onto verandahs overlooking the waterways which run throughout the island. Two bedrooms are en-suite, two share a large bathroom. There's a safe available in the master bedroom. There is a fully equipped, large open plan kitchen and dining room downstairs, with a covered verandah and barbeque. Upstairs the living room has a vaulted ceiling, satelite TV and opens onto an outside covered seating area with views along the waterways and over the swimming pool (which has a special shallow section just for kids to splash about in). The house is perfect for anyone who enjoys golfing, walking, cycling, swimming or just sun worshipping. There are a number of perfect sandy beaches nearby suitable for swimming, surfing and wind surfing, or the beaches on Thesen Island and Leisure Island are brilliant for small children. Thesen Island Harbour Town is 20 minutes walk away through the island and has a number of very good quality restaurants and bars and the marina is only 5 minutes further on for more restaurants and boat trips across the lagoon (Take the car to the gatehouse if you're feeling lazy!).

The Western Cape region
The Garden Route runs from Cape Town through to Port Elizabeth. The scenery is stunning with mountains, forests and lakes falling to the deep blue Indian Ocean fringed by white sandy beaches. The temperature varies from an average of 16deg in winter to 30deg in summer. Days in mid winter can still often be in the 20's. It's a playground for nature lovers, golfers, surfers and adrenalin junkies!
Knysna / Thesen Island area
Go golfing, cycling, swimming, walking, sunbathing, boating, fishing, elephant, bird and whale watching. Hop aboard the Outeniqua Tjoe Choo steam train - one of the most scenic train journeys in the world, following the Indian Ocean coast line and winding up through the forests to Wilderness and George. Take a romantic evening boat trip and enjoy a candlelit dinner on the lagoon. Alternatively , the worlds highest bungee jump is half an hour away by car. Surfing/ abseiling/ kite surfing/ water skiing/ off roading/ mountain biking/ canoeing are all available within a 20 minute drive. There's a huge amount of local craft shops in the vicinity and The Oyster Festival in July and Gastronomica Festival in September are both worth a visit.
How to get there
Blue Savannah is 40 mins drive from George Airport or 5 hours from Cape Town. A shuttle service to Thesen Island is available on request. Either way the scenery is stunning and the drive a pleasure! Reach George via Cape Town or Johannesburg airports. Fly with Virgin, BA or South African Airways(our favourite - more leg room). Good value car hire from www.carhire.co.za
