The Western Cape region
Western Cape enjoys mild winters and pleasant summers, rainfall is moderate throughout the year and there are refreshing sea breezes. Golden vineyards, sun-drenched orchards, beaches, silent forests, sweeping lakes and beautiful views make this region a delight.
These are just a few of the countless activities and attractions available in the area.
Walking - The Knysna Forest has many designated easy walks.
Golf - play on Knysna's three 18 hole courses, namely Knysna Golf Club, Pezula and Simola, or choose from the numerous courses this area has to offer, such as Fancourt at George.
Abseiling and Scuba Diving - at the Knysna Heads and other destinations within easy driving distance.
Dolphin and Whale Watching boat trips operate from Knysna and Plettenberg Bay - the whale season is mainly July-November; the dolphins play all year round.
Shark Diving Cage - experience the Great White Shark up close and personal at Mossel Bay.
Bungee Jumping - from the world's highest commercial bungee at Bloukrans Bridge, an hour and a half drive from Knysna. PLACES TO GO
Knysna Lagoon - take a boat trip around the lagoon and sail through the Heads Featherbed Nature Reserve - across the lagoon by boat, a drive to the top of the Western Head and opt to take the guided walk back down to the jetty.
Knysna Elephant Park - touch the baby eles' and hand feed the big boys - and girls - and learn about the Knysna forest elephants.
Plettenberg Bay Game Farm - enjoy a two hour horse back safari or game drive.
Birds of Eden, Elephant Sanctuary, and Monkeyland - within a few minutes of each other at Plettenberg Bay, view wild birds in this gigantic aviary in the treetops, ride and elephant, walk in the forest of monkeys.
Tenikwa - Just five minutes away from the above. Experience cheetah and other wild cats in a natural setting and learn about their struggle for survival in the wild. A favourite destination of ours.
Prince Alfred Pass - drive through the Knysna Forest to access this most beautiful pass.
Swartberg Pass - built with convict labour by road builder, Thomas Bain. Cool off at the waterfall at Meringspoort.
Cango Caves - an underground wonder near Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo.
Addo Elephant Park - well worth the two and a half hour drive to see wild elephants and other big game in this ever extending national park.

ANNUAL EVENTS
March - Cape Epic The month of March kicks off the first of the year's events with the Cape Epic, a gruelling nine day cycle race, attracting top cyclists from all over the world, which starts in Knysna and finishes in Somerset West.
May - Pink Lourie Festival Next up is the flamboyant and highly colourful week long Pink Lourie Festival, culminating in the Mardi Gras parade through the streets of Knysna.
July - Oyster Festival A ten day party of sport and entertainment, with the cycle race and the marathon and when Knysna's Restaurateurs compete for the most unusual and interesting way of cooking and serving oysters. Even the South African Navy comes into port for the Oyster Festival and its band from Simonstown provides a spectacular concert at the Waterfront, managing to come up every year with a completely new medley of music.
September - Gastronomica Last, but not least on the calendar, we have Gastronomica, which is, quite simply, a five-day food extravaganza.
