The Knutsford area
Quarry Bank Mill A National Trust property, this water powered cotton spinning mill was built in 1784.
Tatton Park Situated 2 miles north east of Knutsford, Tatton has two historic houses, the Mansion and Tudor Old Hall, in 1000 acres of parkland with lakes, tree-lined avenues and herds of red and fallow deer. There are beautiful gardens and a working farm. Tatton Park has frequent events.
Gawsworth Hall Originally a Norman house, the building was extensively remodelled in 1480 and 1701. Formerly the home of the famous Fitton family, Gawsworth is an elegant and welcoming home which hosts many events.
Alderley Edge The Edge is the oldest known metal mining site in Britain, with activity dating back to1900BC. Today, this old industrial site is a beautiful woodland on a dramatic sandstone outcrop with outstanding views of Cheshire and the Pennines.
Jodrell Bank Jodrell Bank is 2 miles south of Chelford. This is the home of the famous Lovell radio telescope and the Merlin/VBLI National Facility. It has a great planetarium.
Anderton Boat Lift For many years, this incredible feat of engineering stood derelict. Now it is restored to its original function of transporting canal boats a vertical distance of approx. 60ft. between the Weaver Navigation and the Trent and Mersey Canal.
Nether Alderley Mill It's truly amazing how few of us who have lived in the area for years have visited the handsome 15th century corn mill, close to Welsh Row on the A34. I'm told it's well worth a look inside.
Capesthorne Hall Eight generations of the Bromley-Davenport family have lived in this imposing building. Originally constructed in the early 18th century, much of the central part was rebuilt following a fire in 1861. The Hall hosts many events throughout the year.
This is Cheshire's Original and Largest Falconry Centre and is based at Knutsford. The park has a comprehensive collection of eagles, vultures, falcons, kites, hawks and owls. Falconry courses, flying displays for shows and events, school visits, children's parties and photography workshops are available.
Gauntlet Birds of Prey Eagle and Vulture Park
Arley Hall The Gardens, which are amongst the finest in Britain, are outstanding for their vitality, variety and historical interest. The Hall is an impressive example of a Victorian country house built in the Elizabethan style.
Tabley House This fine neo-classical house was built by John Carr of York for Sir Peter Byrne Leicester, Bt., and completed in 1769. His son, Sir John Fleming Leicester, Bt., later 1st Lord de Tabley, was the first great patron and collector of British paintings. More © 2007 Chelford Village Contact Webmaster

I came for a week and ended up staying a month. I loved having access to all the animals, which included alpacas, goats, pigs, rabbits, ducks, and chickens. The location was great, the hosts friendly and helpful. The cottage itself was quiet and comfortable. It felt like home. |
