The Tayside / Perthshire / Angus/Dundee region
From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the rugged landscapes of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. The beautiful countryside of Dumfries and Galloway is littered with fortresses and strongholds, testimony to its dramatic history. Moving north, the Highlands are to Scotland what the Pyrenees are to France, with equally breathtaking scenery and fantastic opportunities for walking and mountaineering. Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park are particularly famous for skiing, whilst Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain at 1343m, is a firm favourite for those seeking a challenge.
For the less energetic, the Whisky Trail provides a unique way of exploring many of Scotland’s attractions and for quieter moments, there’s always Loch Ness and a chance to spot the elusive monster! Scotland also has some of Britain’s best and cleanest beaches. Cromarty is famous for its bottle-nosed dolphins and Nairn, whilst claiming to be one of the sunniest and driest places in the country, has glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Several islands lie off the Scottish coast, each with their own character and heritage, however the Isle of Skye is probably the best known and most visited. As the largest of the Inner Hebrides, Skye’s turbulent geological past has bequeathed it a stunning coastline. Experienced walkers are drawn to the Black Cuillin Mountains, whilst those less experienced have an array of lower level coastal walks from which to choose or alternatively, visitors can take some time to visit Skye’s capital, the charming harbour town of Portree.
The Kirriemuir area
The valley of Strathmore is home to the picturesque red sandstone town of Kirriemuir. The area is acknowledged as the gateway to the unspoilt Scottish landscape of the Angus Glens, and the town is famous as the birthplace of the creator of Peter Pan – the novelist JM Barrie - whose former home is today a museum managed by the National Trust for Scotland. The town pays tribute to Barrie’s most well-known work with a statue of Peter Pan, and there are plenty of other visitor attractions including an Aviation Museum, Glamis Castle, and the ancient Pictish Stones at Meigle. There is a good selection of shop, pubs and hotels in the town too. Superb hill walking and climbing is on offer in the nearby Angus Glens for outdoors enthusiasts.

Guestbook for 2982 - Mid Freuchies
We simply love this area of Scotland. The garden at the cottage is lovely and full of wildlife, particularly birds. Our Labrador enjoys all the walks we take in Glen Isla and also wandering around the garden, which is completely enclosed, therefore quite safe. The owners have updated the bathroom since our last visit and the shower is very good. There is always plenty of hot water and the central heating system is very efficient. We will definitely go again. The owners are lovely people, very helpful and genuinely care about their guests which makes a refreshing change.

,This is our second time here this year and it was great. We had my nephews daughters age 9 and 5 with us from Singapore and they had a ball. The weather was very good, only had one day of rain. We were able to be outside all of the time, even had barbeque,s. Will be back again this year.
