Northern England region

The North York Moors National Park lies just inland from the North Yorkshire coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough and has 1,400 miles of trails, footpaths and bridleways, surrounded by heather clad rolling moor land dotted with pretty rural villages and historic country towns. Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North Yorkshire Moors steam railway, which carries passengers from Pickering in the south, north to Grosmont and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast. This area handy for those who want to experience the many aspects that Yorkshire has to offer with easy access to both the Yorkshire Coast and Yorkshire Dales.

Wombleton is a lovely traditional Yorkshire village with the market town of Kirbymoorside just 3 miles away offering shops and local amenities including golf and fishing. The larger town of Pickering is 10 miles away and has a twice weekly market and shop, tea rooms and excellent restaurants offering good local cuisine. A trip on the North Yorkshire steam railway is a must taking you from Pickering station across the North York Moors with its stunning scenery and picturesque villages to the historic fishing port of Whitby. Here you can enjoy the quaint cobble streets with their many tea rooms, craft shops and of course the famous ‘Fish and Chips'. Close by to Wombleton there are some great attractions including Eden Camp, Castle Howard and the Ryedale Folk museum in the lovely moors village of Hutton-Le-Hole. Dalby Forest is ideal for walkers and cyclist with many tracks and paths through the woods and picnic sites and a large visitor's centre.
