Northern England region

The North York Moors National Park lies just inland from the North Yorkshire coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough and has 1,400 miles of trails, footpaths and bridleways, surrounded by heather clad rolling moor land dotted with pretty rural villages and historic country towns. Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North Yorkshire Moors steam railway, which carries passengers from Pickering in the south, north to Grosmont and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast. This area handy for those who want to experience the many aspects that Yorkshire has to offer with easy access to both the Yorkshire Coast and Yorkshire Dales.

Kirkbymoorside is just 1 mile away and is a popular market town with plenty of amenities including Golfing at the local club, fishing at Ings Lane close by and plenty of shops, pubs and cafes where you can enjoy some good home cooked meals. The town really comes alive every Wednesday which is market day when you can buy local fresh produce and many other interesting gifts. The nearby charming moors village of Hutton-le-Hole is the home of the Ryedale Folk Museum and there is a delicious hand-made chocolate shop you will struggle to ignore. The market town of Helmsley is very picturesque and only 6 miles away with its own castle, and it also where the famous Cleveland way begins. Kirkbymoorside is a good base for visiting the North Moors Steam Railway at Pickering that is definitely worth a trip on and will take you to Goathland (otherwise known as Heartbeat country), Grosmont and then on to the fishing town of Whitby, with its cobbled streets and famous Fish and Chips.
