The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline. A haven for walkers, the area also boasts great cycling, gliding, riding and fishing, whilst North York Moors Railway is the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful scenery in a more relaxed setting. Visit the market towns of Pickering or Thirsk; the latter famous for its links with the English country vet and author, James Herriot. Nearby, some of Yorkshire’s best-loved villages including Thornton-le-Dale and Rosedale Abbey offer a taste of village life, as does Goathland, ‘Aidensfield’ in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’.
Finally, stop off at Castle Howard and Duncombe Park, two of Britain’s most historic stately homes situated in breathtaking parklands and gardens. The cliffs, sandy beaches and smugglers’ caves of the Yorkshire coastline are a haven for beachcombers and coastal walkers. Discover the quaint fishing villages of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, with their brightly coloured fishing boats. Finally, there’s the historic city of York, with its interactive Viking Centre, Roman walls, medieval streets, vibrant shops and gothic York Minster cathedral.
The Kirkbymoorside area
Kirkbymoorside is an unmistakably Yorkshire town. Blessed with a natural bypass and surrounded by green hills, farmland and villages, it has quiet amenities and shops serving the needs of local people and visitors alike. Kirkbymoorside is mid-way between Helmsley and Pickering, and developed as the gateway to the Moors - the road through the town to the north gives access to the North Yorkshire Moors. The Kirkbymoorside Golf club is highly regarded as one of the finest in North Yorkshire and boasts some of the most unique holes you will ever encounter with breath-taking views. Known as the gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors, Kirkbymoorside is a great starting point for walks or visiting coastal towns like Whitby, Scarborough or Filey. The wealth of abbeys around Kirkbymoorside include Rosedale, Rievaulx, and Byland, all set in the charming North Yorkshire countryside and easily accessible by car.

Guestbook for 1785 - Howe Green Cottage
A nice cosy cottage that was ideal for the two of us. It was very quiet even though it was on a road. Lovely area and nice to be able to walk into the town. Kirbymoorside has butchers, bakers, deli, chemist, pubs, restaurants and take aways.

,A lovely clean, quiet cottage and well located in an excellent village. Close to both towns/ villages and the peaceful North Yorkshire Moors. The cottage felt very welcoming.

,This is a brilliantly equipped and spotlessly clean cottage with lots of child friendly touches with DVDs and lots of books. There is also a great park just over the road from the cottage. It was a 5 minute walk to the shops and 5 minutes into the countryside for fab walks! A lovely place to stay.
