Kirkby Stephen

The Area.

Ravenstonedale, said by Wainwright to probably be the prettiest village in Westmorland. The village has a small shop, 2 pubs within walking distance, a golf course, and tennis courts. There is river and trout fishing locally as well as horse riding facilities. Bicycles can be hired in Kirkby Stephen and the famous Settle to Carlisle railway is 4 miles away. Relax in this picture postcard village, walk down flower filled lanes, explore the Howgills, take vintage coach trips into the Dales or go for trips into the Lakes. The Town of Kirkby Stephen with its shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs is close by and Appleby-in-Westmorland, famous for its Horse Fair in June, is about 15 miles away. Walking can be enjoyed from the doorstep, along the lanes, up the Howgills or over Ravenstonedale Common. The local churches are of interest, the village church has an interesting Georgian interior and triple-decker pulpit and the church in Kirkby Stephen is known as the Cathedral of the Dales. Depending on the time of year enjoy local life from flower festivals, open garden days, music, and vintage vehicle rally.

"Do NOT stay here if you like cleanliness and comfort."

We stayed here all of half an hour, on entering the cottage there is a musty damp smell, on inspecting the toilet (which was a cupboard) the cheap plastic toilet seat was dirty and smelled strongly of… More

We're so sorry that you didn't enjoy your holiday. We do say in the advert the cottage has low beams and narrow doorways and there are pictures of the interior and exterior of the cottage. The cottage is thoroughly cleaned and aired before guest's arrival. You and your husband looked round the property before check-in. No complaints or issues raised in your review were made at check-in or before your departure from the property. Any complaints made about cleaning or smells would have been investigated promptly and resolved if we had been informed of your concerns. Instead you sent your complaints directly to Holiday Lettings and Cumbrian Tourism several days after leaving the cottage and your complaints were investigated by both organisations. There was no evidence to substantiate your complaints or evidence in the photos to suggest there was anything wrong with the property.
