The Cumbria region

Kirkby Lonsdale is set in the picturesque countryside of South Lakeland, with great views across the valley of the River Lune across to the Yorkshire Dales and Pennines. The lakes and mountains of Cumbria are a short drive away, as are the coast and beaches of Morecambe bay.

Kirkby Lonsdale

The town of Kirkby Lonsdale has a long history as a centre for trade and exchange going back to medieaval times. There are numerous historic buildings including a Norman Church with fine stained glass and carved pulpit. Some splendid country houses are a short drive away.

The town offers a wide range of local retailers, including butchers, bakers, general stores, antique and outdoor shops. There is also a Booths supermarket. There is a wide choice of cafes, restaurants and pubs. It all adds up to a lively and friendly town that is a great place to stay. Casterton village is just a mile away and has a very fine 9 hole golf course that can provide packages for non members .

The river Lune flows close by, featuring the 13thC Devil's Bridge, rocky riverbanks and pebbly beaches that provide natural entertainment for youngsters. A number of easy walks provide access to the lovely local countryside, the limestone outcrops and pavements of the Yorkshire Dales can be reached easily by car or directly by the adventurous hiker.

The town is a great place to base yourself for easy access to the Lake District, the Howgill Fells, the Forest of Bowland and the coast of Morecambe Bay.

I am very sorry to hear that you were disturbed. The pub closes at 11 o'clock so it is very unusual for there to be noise during the night. I hope this didn't spoil your stay.
