The Cumbria/Lake District

The Lake District conjures up images of magnificent mountains and shimmering lakes and that is exactly what visitors find here. In fact the whole county of Cumbria is home to some of Britain's most beautiful scenery. This region has been a favourite all year round holiday destination for years and apart from its natural beauty it's also packed with lots of attractions and activities that cater for every kind of holidaymaker, from family holidays to romantic breaks for couples and from those who are looking for lots of activities and sports to those that prefer more gentle country pursuits. The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family. The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base. Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.

Kirkby Lonsdale

Positioned midway between Caldbeck and Ullswater Hutton Roof is the ideal base for hikers who want to experience some of the very best walking locations in all of Cumbria. Pooley Bridge which sits on the shores of Ullswater is the start of one of the most famous walks up Helvellyn via striding edge. Not for the faint hearted this route provides spectacular scenery and wonderful Lakeland views. The busy market town of Penrith is within easy reach of Dukes Meadow and has a number of local amenities, as well as an imposing castle. Stunning countryside dominates the area including the Eastern Fells and the Caldbeck Fells, ideal for long walks across the Lakeland countryside.
