The Scottish Highlands region
From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the rugged landscapes of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. The beautiful countryside of Dumfries and Galloway is littered with fortresses and strongholds, testimony to its dramatic history. Moving north, the Highlands are to Scotland what the Pyrenees are to France, with equally breathtaking scenery and fantastic opportunities for walking and mountaineering. Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park are particularly famous for skiing, whilst Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain at 1343m, is a firm favourite for those seeking a challenge.
For the less energetic, the Whisky Trail provides a unique way of exploring many of Scotland’s attractions and for quieter moments, there’s always Loch Ness and a chance to spot the elusive monster! Scotland also has some of Britain’s best and cleanest beaches. Cromarty is famous for its bottle-nosed dolphins and Nairn, whilst claiming to be one of the sunniest and driest places in the country, has glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam. Several islands lie off the Scottish coast, each with their own character and heritage, however the Isle of Skye is probably the best known and most visited. As the largest of the Inner Hebrides, Skye’s turbulent geological past has bequeathed it a stunning coastline.
Experienced walkers are drawn to the Black Cuillin Mountains, whilst those less experienced have an array of lower level coastal walks from which to choose or alternatively, visitors can take some time to visit Skye’s capital, the charming harbour town of Portree.
The Kingussie / Kincraig area
This charming Highland village lies in an idyllic location between the towns of Kingussie and Aviemore. Kincraig offers a wide variety of activities for all the family at any time of year and is particularly well positioned for anyone who enjoys outdoor activities. Visitors can enjoy climbing, fishing, cycling, walking and can try their hand at water sports at Loch Insh. Equipment and instruction are all available from here. If you prefer quieter and less strenuous pursuits, birdwatching from the RSPB hide overlooking the Insh Marshes Reserve is something to consider. The Highland Wildlife Park is close by and a chance to see bison, red pandas, wolves, arctic foxes and wildcats is not to be missed. The scenery is breathtaking and the area is a fabulous holiday destination, with its wealth of attractions, villages and rich cultural heritage.

Guestbook for 2666 - Katchana
The wildlife was lovely and the setting was superb. The house was very cosy and had everything you need including board games etc for when the whether turns bad. Exceptionally clean and a gorgeous open fire. Our dog loved it too and it even accommodated a large dog run if you wanted to use it.

,The scenery and wildlife was amazing and we were so lucky with the weather. We had badgers and pine martins feeding outside the back door every evening and saw lots of red squirrels. There were plenty of things to do and most of the activities weren't too expensive, we will definitely come back. We particularly enjoyed kayaking on the loch's.
