The Old Chapel in Kingston in the heart of the South Hams is a real gem of a holiday home. Located minutes from the sandy Wonwell beach and a stones throw from the infamous Dolphin Inn renowned for good food and ale, The Old Chapel is a real must for holiday makers who fancy staying in a property that is full of character and charm. It is the perfect base from which to explore the beaches and walks within the popular South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Old Chapel is set back from the road in the quaint village of Kingston. A Devon stone wall and wrought-iron fencing create the boundary to a small paved sun trap leading to the main entrance.

The property's three bedrooms are all on the ground floor and all have modern en suite shower rooms. The utility room is also located on this floor and can double up as a fourth bedroom if needed by using the double bed settee. However this is probably best suited to children's use only. There is also a television with DVD player if the children want to escape and have some privacy!

The Old Chapel still retains many of its' original features including the 140-year-old stained glass windows. Walk up the staircase and you enter a spectacular open-plan dining room, lounge and kitchen that covers the entire top floor. A separate cloakroom is also located on this floor.

Exposed timbers, fabulous stained glass windows and the feeling of space given by a pitched ceiling remind you that this was once a church – it even retains the original lectern. There is plenty of space for eight people to dine comfortably around the large French elm table and then kick back in front of the 46” wall mounted television.

The West Country region

Modbury, Kingsbridge,Totnes, Salcombe and Dartmouth are all within easy driving distance, along with many excellent pubs and restaurants. The Oyster Shack, voted one of the best restaurants in Devon and The Royal Oak in Bigbury are both 5 minutes drive away. The ever popular Wonwell Beach is just down the road and boasts an unspoilt, uncrowded haven for holiday makers. It's great for swimming, kayaking, canoeing and just relaxing! Bigbury on Sea with the famous Burgh Island is a 10 minute drive.

Pennywell Farm Activity Centre, Woodlands Family Theme Park and The Aquarium, Plymouth are within half an hours drive.

Bigbury Golf Club

A beautiful cliff top 18 hole course overlooking the sea. No golfer visiting the South Hams should miss the opportunity of playing a round or two here. It's an ideal holiday course: challenging enough for the low-handicappers but not too daunting for the holiday maker. The great situation of the course makes it playable all year round. There are outstanding views from almost everywhere on the course, with Dartmoor to the north, the winding river Avon running near a number of holes and breathtaking scenes of Bantham beach and Burgh island.

Thurlestone Golf Club

Thurlestone is one of the most beautiful courses in the South West of England. Running along the stunning coastline of Bigbury Bay, the course is a mix of links and cliff-top terrain with the latter providing breath-taking views of the legendary Thurlestone Rock to the East and the beautiful Avon Estuary and Burgh Island to the West. The course is one of the most exhilarating with majestic rocky seascapes above the coves where smugglers used to operate. It is also ideal holiday golf - not too severe, with quite generous fairways.

The nearest market town is Modbury (about 10 mins drive) which has an assortment of shops including local butchers, delis and bakery. There is also a Co op.

Kingsbridge, again a 10 minute drive, has an assortment of shops including local butchers, fishmongers, delis and bakery. There is also a Tesco and Morrisons.

Salcombe is a lovely little village selling all sorts of souvenirs, clothing and trinkets.

Dartmouth is a must! 'The Jewel of the South Hams.' Ancient narrow streets house boutique shops, art galleries & delicatessens. A cobbled market place features colourful stalls and Farmers markets supplying local produce – used in the local restaurants, pubs & cafes.

For those people who love to fish, the Old Chapel is the perfect location. Right next door lives Nick Oatway who runs a fabulous bass fishing operation with his business partner Bob Musk. See Fishing4Sport "Devon knows why Bassing is so good!" ( for more details. Basically nothing is too much trouble and they will organise anything can be organised, from a single angler who wants corned-beef sandwiches, to eight anglers requiring a Champagne lunch every day on the boat.
