L203 - 1 New Bridge Gardens
Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
on the edge of Loddiswell, a smart, double-glazed town house, 50 yards off a residential cul-de-sac. Built on three levels. Long farmland views from upstairs. Gravelled area in front and small enclosed garden (barbecue) to the side and back. Inside, hall; bright, colourful living/dining room (TV/DVD, iPod dock) with patio doors to garden. Well-equipped fitted kitchen (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, freezer) with breakfast bar. On the first floor, two smallish bedrooms – a double (5' zip-linked bed or 2'6" twins), and one with two single beds; bathroom (suite plus bath-shower). On the second floor, a large double (6' zip-linked bed or twin) with wood floor and en suite shower-room (suite). Only 8 miles from Dartmoor or the coast and well placed for walking, especially in the Avon valley. Much praised.

The West Country region
The South Hams: southernmost Devon; between the river Dart and river Tamar and south of Dartmoor, lush farmland and wooded river valleys turning to beautiful estuaries, its coast very beautiful and remarkably well preserved – sandy beaches and mighty cliffs between those estuaries, amazingly little sprawling modern ugliness. Inland too, away from main roads, it remains surprisingly peaceful.
Among special coastal places are Dartmouth; sheltered Blackpool Sands; Slapton's long curve of pebble beach and nature reserve lagoon; the cliffs about Start Point and Prawle Point, Bolt Head and Bolt Tail; East Portlemouth's beach and Salcombe's location and views; Thurlestone proving that family seaside places don't need to be brash; Bigbury's huge sands and the fun of getting to Burgh Island; waterside, oak-wood-sheltered Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers; many others, less easy of access, are for you to discover.
Kingsbridge and Totnes, both old, attractive and small, are the towns at the area's heart; Plymouth – the West Country's biggest town, with Naval base, ferry port, theatre, cinemas, history, Hoe (great views) and Barbican (where the life is) – is on the area's edge. Dartington Hall is an arts centre (films, plays, music, dance) with lovely gardens. Pleasure cruisers ply the Kingsbridge estuary and Dart and Tamar rivers.
Loddiswell: little hillside village (pub, essential shops, church) above the beautiful river Avon valley, 3 miles from Kingsbridge, 5 from the sea (beaches) at Thurlestone and Bantham or Bigbury-on-Sea. Fishing lakes and lovely gardens to visit nearby.
