L165 - Mill Barn
Cottage | 6 bedrooms | sleeps 14
On the edge of Woolston hamlet, the largest end of a big barn complex converted with huge flair and experience to create a wonderful, luxurious and well thought out house, just right for families and adults alike. This house is quite separate and private from the others, and sits opposite the owners' lovely farmhouse. Enclosed courtyard (table/chairs, grass, patio, pots) and games barn (table tennis, half-sized snooker table) immediately to one side of the house and over the quiet lane is a secluded, tranquil orchard with children's play area and barbecue - a great space for letting off steam. Inside, huge open-plan living/dining/kitchen with beams to apex, large gable-end window, oak floors - everything hugely smart, light and contemporary with woodburner, TV/Sky/DVD/Blu-ray, iPod dock, large dining table and smart, beautiful fitted kitchen area (two dishwashers, microwave, big fridge-freezer with ice maker, electric range-style cooker with induction hob, wine chiller, granite worktops) at one end. Off this room, two large double bedrooms, one with 6' bed, TV and en suite bathroom (suite with separate shower), the other with 5' bed, TV and en suite shower-room (suite). Small cloakroom (loo/washbasin).Oak open tread stairs (stairgates) from the centre of the living space down to flagstone-floored hall, door to lane and playroom with TV/DVD, Wii, air hockey/table tennis table and door to courtyard. Four further bedrooms – a double (5' bed) with TV and en suite shower-room (suite), a bunk room, and two twin (linkable to 6' doubles), one with additional single bed and truckle bed. Smartly fitted shower-room (suite) and bathroom (suite with separate shower). Utility area, storage room and second kitchen (slimline dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, sink, small larder fridge, second cooker/induction hob) with door to rear courtyard with outdoor shower and wash-down area and access to garage/drying room (great for wetsuits, wet coats, boots, dogs). A fabulous, spacious and comfortable house, whatever the weather, in a great secret spot for exploring the beaches and towns of this very beautiful area. Spring water. Professional catering available. Damages Deposit £250.

The West Country region
The South Hams: southernmost Devon; between the river Dart and river Tamar and south of Dartmoor, lush farmland and wooded river valleys turning to beautiful estuaries, its coast very beautiful and remarkably well preserved – sandy beaches and mighty cliffs between those estuaries, amazingly little sprawling modern ugliness. Inland too, away from main roads, it remains surprisingly peaceful.
Among special coastal places are Dartmouth; sheltered Blackpool Sands; Slapton's long curve of pebble beach and nature reserve lagoon; the cliffs about Start Point and Prawle Point, Bolt Head and Bolt Tail; East Portlemouth's beach and Salcombe's location and views; Thurlestone proving that family seaside places don't need to be brash; Bigbury's huge sands and the fun of getting to Burgh Island; waterside, oak-wood-sheltered Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers; many others, less easy of access, are for you to discover.
Kingsbridge and Totnes, both old, attractive and small, are the towns at the area's heart; Plymouth – the West Country's biggest town, with Naval base, ferry port, theatre, cinemas, history, Hoe (great views) and Barbican (where the life is) – is on the area's edge. Dartington Hall is an arts centre (films, plays, music, dance) with lovely gardens. Pleasure cruisers ply the Kingsbridge estuary and Dart and Tamar rivers.
Woolston: tiny farming hamlet in lanes, 1½ miles from Malborough (shop, garage). Salcombe and Kingsbridge, 3 miles.
