Home description
Thurlestone is the epitome of a south Devon village with its picturesque stone and thatched cottages, medieval church and 16th century inn. It lies sleepily just above the great sweep of Bigbury Bay surrounded by the hills and fields of the glorious South Hams.
The cottage sits nested on the cliff edge, overlooking the National Trust run beach of South Milton and Thurlestone Sands. The panoramic views from every room, which stretch across the coastline, take in from 'Burgh Island' and the famous 'Thurlestone Rock', as captured by Turner, right through to the Eddisone Light House and out to sea!
The cottage itself was totally renovated and extended at the beginning of 2005 to a very high specification, rarely found in holiday cottages.
The ground floor accommodation has a large open plan dining kitchen with a fully equipped kitchen area, which includes a built in double oven, hob, extractor fan, fridge with freezer box, dish washer and washer dryer.
The dining area has a contemporary feel, with table and chairs to seat six people. Steps then lead you down into the sitting room featuring multiple windows, a cosy wood burning stove and stylish oak wood flooring.
French doors lead on to a large private deck from where you can enjoy a drink whilst watching the most stunning sun sets, as the sun drops down over Plymouth Sound and settles over Burgh Island.
In addition to this, there is a downstairs shower room with a power shower, ideal for washing off after a day on the beach.
Upstairs, there are two superb double bedrooms. The master bedroom has a French carved double bed and double wardrobe, accompanied by a vaulted ceiling and a large church style window, allowing a most spectacular view over Thurlestone Rock that makes it difficult to draw the curtains.
The second bedroom also has sea views over to Hope Cove with two single beds and a double wardrobe. There is a luxury shared bathroom with a cast iron ball and claw bath.
All this, plus an indoor heated swimming pool and sauna, make for a relaxing holiday, whether it be a summer holiday with delicious cream teas in a 1950's English setting, or a winter break full of brisk coastal walks, long lunches and log fires watching the dramatic ever-changing sky and sea.
