Higher Stadbury Cottage
About the home
Stadbury is approached by a mile long private drive with lovely views over the Avon estuary to Dartmoor.
The Avon Estuary Walk between Bigbury and Bantham passes through Stadbury before heading down to the sandy Avon estuary, a secluded creek, restored lime kiln, a heronry and, in 2 1/2 miles, Bantham (sandy surfing beach, good pub) where it joins the South Devon Coastal path. Popular area for walkers and birdwatchers - (the rare cirl bunting seen and little egrets nest here). The farmstead, stretching along the hillside is tree-sheltered and consists of a medieval manor house, farmhouse and several converted farm buildings, all Grade II listed. All are private from each other.
The cottage has a small walled front garden (lawn, flowers, cobbled path, enclosed); large paved, secluded patio (with barbecue) and lawn (lovely views to Dartmoor) at the back.
You are welcome to wander the owners' 11/2 acre garden with sea views and access to the Avon Estuary Walk.

Enquire nowThe West Country / Devon region
The South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is characterised by its peaceful countryside, pretty villages, rolling hills, colourful hedge banks, green lanes, orchards and wooded valleys. These lead to a varied coast of sandy bays, a shingle bar isolating a large freshwater lake from the sea and rocky cliffs covered in windflowers em-baying 5 varied estuaries.
It is an ancient countryside with generations of human activity etched into the grain of the landscape. Farmers continue to manage the countryside as they have done for thousands of years providing a landscape of mixed grassland, arable and small woods all linked by public paths.
The Kingsbridge / Aveton Gifford area
The biggest town in the area. At the end of the Kingsbridge/ Salcombe estuary. There is a market every Thursday. Farmers markets and sometimes French Markets. Many takeaway/delivery restaurants, pubs and unique shops. There is also a petrol garage and a Morrisons and Tesco.
There is a cottage hospital and doctors surgery. There is a 2 screen cinema and nightclub, leisure centre with swimming pool, squash courts, gym, bowls and floodlit tennis courts on the other side of the quay in the park. There is a ferry that runs to Salcombe.

As a family this was an ideal property and location for walking on the National and local footpaths. We and our two teenage boys (13 and 18) also enjoyed the games room and the field where they could play football and other games. The accomodation was furbished to an exceptionally high standard, having all the modern amenities. The owners were very welcoming, helpful and informative. Would recommend to all. |

As you approach Higher Stadbury along the mile long drive you begin to experience what awaits you- wonderful, breathtaking countryside and the beautiful estaury. As the excitement rises you sweep round into the gravel drive and come to rest at the front of the stunning stone farmhouse to be greeted by the owners John and Elspeth. Friendly, supportive but entirely unobtrusive. Your holiday has started. You will not forget it: The smell of the fresh air, the flowers, the fruit trees, the sea glistening in the distance, the spotless cottage. You have found your oasis to which you will want to return again and again. |

For a relaxed holiday in delightful countryside look no further. Spotlessly clean this simple but attractive cottage is perfect, the promotional description borne out. The neighbouring owners are friendly and helpful but not intrusive. We have been a number of times and have rebooked for 2012. Great value too. |
