The Barn at Cotmore Farm
Barn | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 5
The Barn at Cotmore Farm is a newly built, reverse-level conversion situated in a small farm courtyard surrounded by 13 acres of pasture, orchards, woodland and gardens. It boasts stunning, airy interiors to the highest specifications: heated slate floors downstairs and solid oak boards upstairs, luxury bathrooms, ultramodern Scandinavian woodburner, original contemporary art on the walls, comfortable leather sofas, flatscreen HD TV with DVD/CD player and free wifi. Outside there's a private terrace garden with barbecue, an orchard with giant trampoline, space for ball games, and horses, chickens and rare-breed piglets to visit in their homes. As previous guests have remarked, The Barn at Cotmore Farm provides all the comforts of home in an idyllic countryside setting.
The front door opens to an elegant hallway. On the left, a large bookcase filled with paperback and hardback fiction, reference books and local history, and an excellent selection of children's picture books, will tempt you to browse and borrow. To the right, the master bedroom with en-suite is furnished with a kingsize bed. Next door a private laundry room has washing, drying and ironing facilities. The spacious second bedroom offers twin beds that will comfortably accommodate adults or children. A cot is available if required at no extra charge.
A glass balustraded staircase leads to the first floor, a lovely, light-filled space, with high ceilings, exposed beams and roof lights, offering expansive, open-plan living. At one end of this 35-foot room is a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, with views to the garden and farm courtyard. At the other, two comfortable leather sofas, a widescreen satellite TV, and a high-end Scandinavian woodburner offer a congenial space to relax of an evening. Double French doors give onto a sunny private terraced garden, with outdoor dining facilities and barbecue. From the terrace, a path leads to a sheltered apple orchard with a trampoline and a grassy area perfect for a game of football, badminton or croquet.
Horses, cats, chickens, and rare breed piglets provide feeding opportunities for animal-loving children (and adults!), while birdwatchers will delight in the abundance of visitors to our many tables and feeders. And since we're barely a mile from the South West Coast Path, walkers (and their dogs) will not want for new routes to explore.

The West Country region
The South Hams, bordered by Plymouth to the West, Dartmoor to the North, and Torbay to the East, boasts some of the most unspoilt coastline on the south English coast: 60 miles of bays and coves, including the promontories of Start Point and Bolt Head. The entire coast, along with the lower Avon and Dart valleys, forms most of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area benefits from a very mild climate - winters are warm and wet, while spring and autumn are often glorious - making it a year-round destination. Summertime is when things get very exciting in South Devon: the TQ7 postcode in particular is renowned among installers of solar pv as one of the sunniest places in the UK, and in most years between June and September, every day is beach day. For those seeking more cerebral pleasures, the great Elizabethan maritime city of Plymouth, and the ancient Roman walled city of Exeter provide contrasting attractions: each has its complement of historic sites, stately homes, grand gardens and museums to visit. They also offer excellent shopping, elegant dining, a range of nightlife and award winning theatre at the Theatre Royal and the Northcott respectively.
Many miles of safe, award-winning beaches offer swimming, rockpooling, and sunbathing opportunities, while watersports - particularly surfing, windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing and parasailing - are popular and widely available. There are facilities for golf, sailing, horseriding, tennis, and river- and sea fishing all within 30 minutes' drive of the property.
Walkers and their dogs will appreciate the attractions of miles of quiet lanes, footpaths, bridleways, and the renowned South Devon Coast Path, while stargazers will glory in the complete absence of artificial light, which makes the Milky Way regularly visible with the naked eye. The area is hugely popular with birdwatchers: Start Point is on a major migration route, Slapton Ley is an overwintering spot for rare overseas visitors, and the Cirl Bunting can be spotted at one or two favoured locations.
South Devon is at the cutting edge of the Good Food revolution in the UK and there are superb eateries to be found in every town and village, with pub fare that would put many restaurants to shame. Fish and seafood are a speciality in the many fishing villages along the coast, and there are a number of establishments where you can pick your choice from the slab or tank and have it prepared, cooked and served to your table while you wait.

"Amazing, child friendly, farm location with great accommodation"
We greatly enjoyed staying at Cotmore Farm with our 3 girls (7,10,12). They loved living on the farm for the week, helping out with the animals and collecting eggs! The owners are on site, but not intrusive in any way, instead very friendly with the children and helpful for advice and info.
The accommodation was fantastic. As the cook of the house, I loved the kitchen and open plan living space.
Out top tip would be the children's 'pony days' at a local equestrian centre - our girls said that was the highlight of the week. And we enjoyed a day off and lunch in salcombe!
Would highly recommend and hope to return.

"Lovely family holiday in peaceful setting"
Piers and Sue made us feel very welcome from the minute we arrived. Excellent accomodation with all you could wish for. A real home from home. Our children loved collecting the eggs each morning and 'helping' (?) Sue with the horses. We loved it so much that we are going back next year.

"Fantastic place & people"
I stayed here with my husband & 3 year old daughter, and we all loved staying at cotmore farm. Great accommodation, really lovely and very helpful owners Piers & Sue, not forgetting the beautiful horses/pigs/chickens & my daughters (and all of ours) favourite Jack the Dog! The welcome basket was a smashing touch and very much enjoyed! If you can tear yourself away from the barn, then we recommend popping to Beasands for some fresh air and lovely food!

"Ideal accommodation in this perfect part of Devon"
This was the 2nd holiday we had at Cotmore Barn and we didn't think it would be possible to enjoy it more than before, but we did. The barn is spacious, comfortable and well appointed so that you have everything you could need for a self-catering stay. The patio is well placed for sunny meals, from breakfast to dinner, with a parasol if shade is required. We ate here every day, enjoying the tranquil surroundings and bird activity.
This is a truly lovely part of Devon. The coast line is dramatic, with delightful blue coves for swimming and sandy beaches for exploring. Whether walking the coastal path or taking a more relaxed approach, the scenery is wonderful.
Cotmore is situated so you feel far enough away from it all but within easy reach of nearby towns and picturesque villages. Local ferries provide access to Agatha Christie's home and the Dart estuary; both are beautiful.
There is plenty to see, lost villages, lighthouses, maps of shipwrecks, etc, etc. For a 'Famous Five' style holiday, nowhere could be better and Cotmore Barn is the perfect place to be located where Piers and Sue Spence will ensure a warm welcome and a generous sharing of their lovely surroundings.
