Home description
This old house, part of it is older than 200 years old, was restored by us during a long and productive period of 7 years. Every single item from the old house and from the humble findings of the yard that could be spared, used again or could just be shown in a simple way was used in the restored house. We don't have the shining new objects of the 21st century but instead we have created an environment full in, I hope, an elegant way of antiques, mirrors, maps, old genuine photos and only real paintings that create a feeling of tranquillity and peace. That was our purpose combined with the absolutely logical needs of today's world.
This property is comprised of: one double bedroom, one bedroom with two single beds and a drawer bed combined with 3 sofa beds, two bathrooms, a big living room with a fireplace downstairs, another one upstairs full of antiques and objects collected by us, a cosy kitchen, a yard of about 600sq.m., a balcony with unique views, all the amenities you could ask for in 5 min. drive, many beaches within a distance of 5 to 7 km, but most important of all, an environment of beauty, silence and a really natural way of life.

The Sporades/Evia region
Evia is the second largest island of Greece. Its length assures the variety of its locations. From deserted beaches for you to explore, high mountains to walk, beautiful villages, many roads for 4wd, or easy to get organized amenities of all kinds. There are at least 4 different ferry routes from the island to the mainland, and an everyday ferry to Skiros (the famous island for its ponies and tiny houses), and at least once or twice a week for the Sporades.
HALKIS the capital of the island is the birthplace of the Latin alphabet. Now is a city of approx.70.000 with the famous current that goes up and down every 6 hours as a result of the specific geological making of the two gulfs.
We strongly recommend a visit to Eretria wih the museum, the ancient theatre and the house of the mosaics. The south part of Evia is called Cavo D'Oro one of the worst capes of the old times for the sailors and still a place of few inhabitants.
The long coastline has so many different sights and places where you can always chose between an organized beach or a small gulf only for you and your company. If you chose alternative ways of traveling you can go to the area of Marathon or even to Athens easily. For us the most important is to give many ideas about excursions and places where for sure you will not find in the typical guides but they are worthwhile.
Kimi / Kalimerianoi area
A real surprise awaits the patient traveller who wants to discover by his own the beauty of a world almost untouched. The eastern coastline of Evia where our house is almost in the middle and has some of the most beautiful beaches of Greece and some of them can be found after a small drive within a radius of 10 to 20 km.
If you have a 4wd or you are planning to rent one you will have an almost unlimited variety of trips. You can begin your day among a forest of fir trees (a unique place is Vromonera) and by the end of it reach the beach of Thapsa where you will swim and listen at the same time to the nightingales sing. Exactly 500m from our house there is a level road which begins from a deserted coal mine and leads to the sea after about 7 km the ideal road for walking, jogging or cycling.
The nearby town of Kimi has a marvellous view over the Agean sea, a nice Architecture ,tasty local sweets and a rather more than usual polite and calm population of 3000.There are so many places of interest within a 10 to 15 min drive from the unique spot of Axanemes with a view of hundreds of km over most of the Aegean to many small Byzantine churches of a different past and approach to life.
Naftiko is another surprise place ,where you can go there only on foot. The path is unique, you walk most of the time under the shadow of wild trees and when you get there, you will find a very rare kind of small cows .
And this is what I am interested to share to the right persons. There still is unspoiled beauty and character. This is not Hybris. This is the reality which waits for the eyes to see the ears to listen to and for the whole human being to participate in.
How to get there
Kalimerianoi , the village where our house is, is located near the small town of Kimi. The distance from Athens is 160km. There is a bus to and from Athens 7 times a day. But we consider having a car as essential for your holidays for your own comfort. If you rent one in the Airport you could use the alternative road from Agia Marina by a ferry to Stira and then be here in less than two hours and 90km altogether.

Further details indoors: Although most of the items of the house are old the overall feeling is of something alive and vibrating. The details we have carefully take care of, make a strong positive impression on the ones who can understand and recognize the difference of something shining new and of something which carries the touch of humans and time.
Further details outdoors: Being in one of the very healthy and full of light places of Greece, with an Eastern orientation, you will discover on your own the beauty of the garden. The plants are mostly young, there are many herbs with delicate smells like myrtle, lavender, mint etc. A sycamore shades half of the yard, there are two hammocks, plenty of level room for children to play but at the same time you will always find a spot to relax or even to concentrate. All day long there is peace and quite for the neighbourhood is a peaceful one, very few cars pass by maybe less than 10 per day. Then at nights especially if there is moon the sounds and the light will charm you.
Further details
The garden will be taken care by us during your stay. You must know for sure that our cats will stay, so you have to feed them (of course we will provide their food). We would like you to feel at home and do not forget that this is our home. So we would be glad to share with you our knowledge of the area, in history, ethnology and art. On the other hand we can give you very detailed advice for excursions and trips either by car or on foot. We are walkers and climbers ourselves and this is the reason we are here and not in a more famous place. We hope that your stay here will offer you many good and positive surprises.
Conditions
Smokers are welcome but we would like you to smoke only outdoors. A 30% deposit is payable upon booking and balance must be transferred to us 15 days before your arrival date. Cards are not accepted.

The library can open after an arrangement. A car is essential but if for some reasons you do not wish to bring your own or rent one there is a taxi in the village which with a logical cost can serve you. A man or the owner will look after the garden in no additional cost. Bicycles can be provided after prior contact and some excursions with 4wd can be arranged by us.
At least once during your stay and of course if you wish it, we will arrange a dinner in my parent's house with a very fine traditional Greek cook.
Accepted payment methods: bank transfer / wire transfer.
