The East Ireland / County Meath region
Kiltale is close to Dublin in the heart of County Meath.
County Meath is a county in the Republic of Ireland, often informally called The Royal County. Trim has a historical significance, including the location of the circuit court, Norman castle and Anglo-Norman parliament. Meath is also home to Kells, with its round tower and monastic past, and Slane, known both for its castle, and annual rock concert.
Meath (the "middle") was once a province of Ireland in its own right - see Kings of Mide - but now forms part of Leinster. Historically this province of Meath included all of the current county as well as all of Westmeath and parts of Cavan, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth and Offaly. The High King of Ireland sat at Tara in Meath. The archaeological complex of Brú na Bóinne, including the 5,000-year-old burial site Newgrange, in the northeast of the county, is a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site.

Take a day trip to Dublin and ride on an open top city bus tour taking in Guinness brewery, Phoenix Park ( the largest park in Europe) and Trinity college; hopping on and off and exploring the city at your will.
The National aquatic centre is great for a rainy day and includes a 50m pool, diving pool, surfing machine, water roller coaster, wave pool, lazy river, Water slide and much more.
The Book Of Kells is the most decorated illuminated manuscript to survive from early medieval period in Europe. Created by the Columban Monks on the remote Island of Iona. The original can be seen in Trinity College Dublin.
The River Boyne is a name that resonates with history and adventure. It was on the banks of this famous river that the Celtic chieftain William of Orange defeated the Catholic armies of exiled James II of England in 1690.
The passage tomb of Newgrange, built over 5000 years ago, is one of the most famous prehistoric monuments in Western Europe. It is neighboured by the passage graves of Knowth and Dowth, all of which were erected before the Pyramids of Egypt. King John's Castle, Trim, standing proudly and defiantly on the banks of the river Boyne, is the largest Anglo-Norman Castle in Europe, dating to 1172. Sections of the hugely successful film Braveheart starring Mel Gibson were filmed here. The Hill of Tara is located just a pleasant drive from Kiltale House & Cottage. Sitting on top of Tara is the most famous of Tara's monuments - Ireland's ancient coronation stone, 'The Stone Of Destiny'. Also located there is the Mound of the Hostages - a megalithic passage tomb, dating to about 2,500 BC. Loughcrew Cairns are another of the hidden gems of the Boyne Valley. The Cairns are a group of passage tombs in a magical setting dating from the Neolithic (c. 3,000 B.C.). Cairn T, one of the largest in the complex, has impressive examples of prehistoric art and is also the site of the famous hag's chair. Bective Abbey, located close to Kiltale Holiday Homes, proudly overlooks the Boyne, the second Cistercian Abbey to be established in Ireland, following the immediate success of Mellifont. Although most of the present impressive ruins date to the 15th century, the abbey was originally founded in 1150 by Murchadh O Maelsheachlainn, King of Meath, a smaller abbey having been built in the 15th century to replace the earlier Gothic complex. The abbey was one of the most important monastic sites in the country, and the Abbot of Bective sat in the Parliament of the Pale. The abbey was closed in 1536 on the general suppression of the monasteries by Henry VIII, and was modified into a manor house and handed over to civil servants as reward for their loyal work.
How to get there
Located on the main bus route to Dublin city, bus stops outside gate for city centre. Dublin airport only 30 minutes.
From Dublin Airport Take the M1 From Dublin Airport, heading south to Dublin. At the junction with the M50, exit the M1 and take the M50 South.
Exit the M50 at Blanchardstown (exit 6), and take the N3 North in the direction of Navan.
Take the R-154 of the N3 at Rathoath junction, heading for Trim. Pass through the small village of Batterstown.
As you reach the townland of Kiltale you will pass a small collection of shops called Kiltale Stores and a petrol station (Campus) on your left.
Roughly 1km further further on, Kiltale Holiday Homes will be sign posted on your left.
