About the home

There are three separate self catering apartments in the Buglers Cottage

The Beaufort Suite is a two bedroomed suite. One bedroom contains a double bed and ensuite shower room containing large power shower and underfloor heating. There is also a twin room with ensuite shower room with large power shower and underfloor heating. The open plan kitchen/living area has a fully fitted kitchen with electric fire. Private patio with dining set. Wooden floors throughout. Suite sleeps four.

There is a cozy reception area leading into the cottage which all guests can use to unwind after a long day. Each apartment leads of from this reception area.

There is one laundry room with separate washer and dryer which is available for all guests to use.

The County Kerry region

The Gap has long been a popular tourist attraction. The road through it is narrow, winding, and difficult for motorised traffic, so the most popular form of transport for tourists is the horse-drawn Trap, a cart where up to four occupants sit facing each other. There are also riding ponies for hire. The Trap and ponies are guided by the Gap Poneymen who are from families that live in and around the Gap. The Poneymen use a rotation system called the Turn which determines who takes the next customers. The Turn has been in existence since the 1920s and is passed down in the families to the next generation. Bikes can also be rented in the town of Killarney and ridden through the gap. More recently, tourists have visited the Gap as it was a location on Irish film The Crying Game. The Road through the Gap from a popular starting point, Kate Kearney's, down to Lord Brandon's Cottage, is about 11km long, and contains a 500-foot elevation. Many people hike or bike the route.

The Killarney / Gap of Dunloe area

Set in one of the most sought after locations in Ireland, the Buglers Cottage is situated on the passageway through the world famous Gap of Dunloe. The popular tourist town of Killarney is a 10 minute car journey and the quaint village of Beaufort is a few minutes drive. The nearest pub/restaurant is the famous Kate Kearneys cottage which is a five minute stroll away.


The location makes an ideal base for touring Killarney, Dingle and The Ring of Kerry. The spectacular scenery provides a magnificent backdrop for an abundance of outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, mountain climbing (Magillicuddy Reeks is the highest mountain range in Ireland) horseriding, fishing and boating.

Many championship golf courses are nearby including Killarney, Tralee, Waterville and Ballybunion. The village of Beaufort is a few minutes by car, a short 5 mininute walk takes you to the Gap of Dunloe or you can take a jaunting car from the front door. The area has a host of fantastic restaurants, traditional pubs and musical entertainment.
