The County Galway / County Clare / County Clare region

Ballina-Killaloe is in the heart of the Shannon region with easy access to historic Limerick & beautiful Co. Clare with its spectacular West Coast including the Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch, Liscannor and many more. The Burren is a unique part of the world with its awe-inspiring limestone terrain.
Co. Tipperary is rich in heritage too with castles and cathedrals dotted here there and everywhere!
The temperate climate is perfect for touring. Ballina-Killaloe is only a short trip (30 mins) to the ancestral home of Barack Obama in Moneygall, Co. Offaly.
The Killaloe / Cullenagh area
Killaloe has a beautiful Cathedral, and the former lock keeper's house by the thirteen-arched stone bridge has been rebuilt as the Brian Boru Heritage Centre. Here you will find all the information you need about the locality and about Brian Boru the last high King of Ireland, who ruled from this area a 1,000 years ago.
We recommend a trip to Brian Boru's Fort, a mystical place.
The Brian Boru Festival is on at the end of June usually and is always great craic!
Killaloe has several good restaurants and lots of pubs, several of which have outdoor seating for when the sun shines.
Lough Derg, which covers 32,000 acres, is one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Ireland. Low hills and mountains with a shoreline of marvellous inlets and bays surround it. Sheltered narrow twisting roads surround the lake with intermittent villages, where one can stop off and explore the many historic sites and places of interest around the lakeshore.
The Lough Derg Way is a 64km walking route that starts in Limerick and follows the River Shannon and its canals northwestwards to the lake port of Dromineer on Lough Derg. Along the way the route passes through the hamlet of Clonlara, the village of O’Briensbridge and the ancient town of Killaloe, where interested walkers will want to linger at St Flannan’s Cathedral with its early Christian oratory. Lakeside and waterside sections of the route offer fine views.
There is also a cycle route that circles the entire lake.
Villages in East Clare like Scarriff and Mountshannon are lovely to visit and a family favourite is the Scarriff festival on the August Bank Holiday Weekend (30th July - 2nd August).

We chose this location because we are Irish and were told we had family living or had lived in Killaloe or close to it. Our stay at Niamh Healy home will forever be in our memories. Outstanding... more |

We stayed here with 3 seniors, 2 adults and 2 teenagers. It was easy to communicate with Niamh, she answered all questions, before and during our stay. Promptly responded to my emails before rental too. Information on running appliances, local attractions and departing instructions were clear and very helpful. 2 bedrooms on main level easy for the seniors. Niamh had everything needed for a stress free holiday even facecloths. We had teenagers, so didn't need it, but there was even a child safety gate at the top of the stairs to the lower level. We were traveling all over Ireland and to Scotland and England. By far the most complete house we rented was Niamh's. Lovely location, nice town. If I go back, I would definitely stay here again. Just a note for U.S. residents who may not be familiar with the EU plumbing, we were a little confused about running the showers throughout our trip which included 3 more rentals and 2 B & B's. This is no negative reflection on Niamh's house, just a note that you may want to ask questions about running water and heating controls on the showers, when staying in any rental. My dad, who was with us, is a plumber by trade, so he helped us understand the system. |

Our family of five (children 11,9, and 6) spent a week staying in this lovely home. Niamh was always a pleasure to work with; prompt and helpful in every way. She refunded the security deposit back to us very quickly and everything went smoothly with the administrative details. The house is very quiet, peaceful and well-decorated in a nice neighborhood. Our kids really enjoyed the playroom and all the board games, so much so that my 6-year old did not want to leave "our Ireland house." The kitchen in particular is very well-stocked with anything and everything you could ever need. We roasted a chicken in the convection oven on Easter, which turned out delicious. The view is spectacular in every kind of weather, which of course, we experienced (no snow, though!). Killaloe and Ballina are nice towns to spend time in. The house is convenient to supermarkets, restaurants, pubs, churches, and of course the beautiful lake. |

"Your house is absolutely beautiful and we had a wonderful time staying there. It was the perfect holiday for us and my husband said it was even better than going out of the country. It's a beautiful town that neither of us had ever been to. Our daughter loved the house too. She had fun just walking around and played with the toys/books.
Thank you for providing such a wonderful place for us to stay. It truly was one of the best holidays! We will be telling all our friends about it. You really have done a great job with providing everything we could possibly need and it made the holiday that much more easy when traveling with a one year old. :)
Thanks again."

"The House was absolutely beautiful and the views from the back garden and terrace were stunning. Staying in this beautiful location and house made this trip for us a real pleasure and we would definately recommend this property to anybody that requires a nice location and a relaxing environment to come back to after a busy sightseeing schedule or even just to relax at home. Thanks to Niamh for a lovely weekend and we do hope to be able to rent again"

"Wonderfully spacious, clean and modern house with spectacular scenery and all the home comforts. A real home from home!"
· By Sarah Jordan from leicestershire on 8/25/2010 for a stay in 8/1/2010
"The house was spotless when we checked in with freshly laundered towels waiting on each bed. The house is modern with wooden floors and tiles in the main living areas and soft carpetting in the bedrooms. The facilities are excellent - utility area, kitchen equipment, steam room, jacuzzi bath, children's playroom (not used by us but looked good). The view from the main sitting room is quite stunning - a panorama of the hills of East Clare and Lough Derg - and it was really lovely in the evening as the sun set behind the hill across the river from the house. Ballina/Killaloe has lots of restaurants, bars and cafes including the funkiest open air coffee shop - Cafe Chaos at the bottom end of Church Street. Also a great location for exploring both sides of Lough Derg. Recommend this house to anyone and Niamh was a pleasure to deal with."

"Excellent holiday house in a beautiful location - towns of Killaloe/Ballina are lovely and the views from the house over the loch are fantastic. House had everything a family could possibly need - our pre-school children were well catered for with a garden swing set, playroom and a TV room to occupy them in all weathers."
