About this location

The Western Ireland region

County Mayo (Mhaigh Eo) is located on Ireland's west coast and is often described as one of Ireland's hidden treasures. Home to more than 120,000 people and 86 towns and villages, it has plenty to offer residents and tourists alike with a wide variety of shops, restaurants and festivals to choose from.

Mayo offers miles of trails for walking, cycling and hill walking. Perhaps the most impressive is the recently opened Greenway which allows walkers and cyclists an 42 km off road trip from Westport to Achill which includes stunning sea views as well as a castle and an abbey. Mayo also has a number of scenic drives including Westport to Leenane (Galway), Tír Sáile art trail, around Lough Furnace, Callow Lakes and much more.

Mayo's extensive coastline offers miles of unspoilt beaches (including more than a dozen Blue Flag beaches), amazing seascapes and hundreds of islands including Achill Island, Clare Island and Inishturk Island to name but a few. Mayo's seashore, countless lakes and rivers provide ample opportunity for surfing, sailing, kayaking

"Fantastic views"

We came back from killadoon yesterday after a brilliant week. The property is all about the views which are spectacular from all angles, the whole area is stunningly beautiful. The owners are very hel… More

Perhaps the tone of this review is more critical than intended? We received the following email from our Guest on the day of departure:
“Dear Kathryn, we have decided to leave a day earlier than planned, we've locked up and put the keys through the door. We have enjoyed our stay immensely and will probably be visiting again. We've tried you leave everything as we found it, just one thing, the hair dryer over heats when you use it, just thought I'd let you know from a safety point! Thanks once again.”
Mosaic tiling on bathroom floors could be seen as a little old fashioned but it is necessary to achieve the level access “wet room” shower at ground floor level. All photos of the house interior were taken last summer except for the living room which was taken just before we replaced lightweight Habitat furniture with a more comfortable leather suite. As you will see from the other reviews we take great care to ensure the property is spotless with a typical time of 4 hours to prepare the house for new guests. We are pleased that our guest liked the bedrooms (we use 100% cotton sheets and natural finish duvets) and we agree that the house is designed with a focus on the outside - there is after all a view of 25 miles of Mayo Coastline from the house in addition to Croagh Patrick and Moorland hills directly behind the property. One visitor said that we don't need pictures on the walls as there is a picture framed in every window! We agree.
