Kilkenny City has all you will need for a break from it all, from it's medieval roots in Kilkenny Castle to the great selection of shops in the city and in MacDonagh Shopping Centre. Kilkenny is also well known for it's nightlife with more than enough pubs and clubs to choose from. If you're looking to eat out, you'll be spoilt for choice with restaurants from all types of cuisines and to suit every pocket.

Kilkenny also has plenty to keep the kids happy with leisure centres, cinema, horse riding, Reptile Zoo and much more nearby. Dunmore Caves are just a few minutes drive from Carrigeen Cottage and are definitely worth a visit.

If you want to venture outside the city, Woodstock Gardens is just a short drive away in the village of Inistioge. Spend a relaxing afternoon walking around the beautiful gardens.

We stayed for five days with our two grandchildren aged 4 and 8,They loved feeding the donkeys in the field next to the garden, in the morning and evening, The owner Marsha could not have been more helpful,Lots of local places to bring the children,They loved the reptile Zoo and Bowling. The only negative was narrow roads to the cottage, But owner met us and we followed in our car.

Glad you and the children enjoyed your stay at Carrigeen Cottage. Thank you for your review. Lovely meeting you all.

"Rural peace, great touring location and only ten minutes from the centre of Kilkenny."

Carrigeen cottage is an ideal location to explore the south east of Ireland. Deep in the countryside yet only ten minutes from the vibrant centre of Kilkenny, with its historic buildings, picturesque streets , great restaurants and pub music scene. Wexford, Waterford, Cobh, Cashel are all within driving distance as well as many smaller towns and villages. There was so much it kept us busy all week and we still did not see it all. The cottage is newly renovated with every modern convenience and sits in an old farm yard with a grassy sward to one side which adjoins a field with three friendly donkeys. The track entrance to the property was a little hard to find initially but I understand that this is to be remedied. We had hares coming up to the cottage after the hay had been cut. Great place to stay.

Delighted you enjoyed your stay at Carrigeen Cottage and Kilkenny. It was a pleasure meeting you. We're currently in the process of putting up signage at the road side to make it easier to find us. Thank you for your comments.
