Enquire nowThe County Galway / County Clare / County Clare region
County Clare is situated on the west coast of Ireland, with Galway to the north and Kerry south of the Shannon.
West Clare encompassing the area west of county town Ennis is largely undiscovered by tourists. West Clare is famous for the unique Burren area, traditional music, a spectacular coastline and the quality and diversity of its seafood. Lisdoonvarna has achieved fame, or notoriety, with the annual bachelor festival, while the nearby Cliffs of Moher can equally thrill and scare!
Carrigaholt, adjacent to Querrin Creek, has daily boat trips to visit the largest inshore pod of bottlenose dolphins in Europe. Situated in the Special Area of Conservation, boasting a long sandy beach, excellent pubs and restaurants, and watched over by a 15th century castle, Carrigaholt is a firm favourite. Kilkee is a Victorian resort, graced by a semi-circular promenade and strand, awe-inspiring cliff walks, an 18 hole golf course and memories of Richard Harris, a long term resident. For the serious golfer, Doonbeg has a new links course designed by Greg Norman and listed in the top hundred courses in the world.
The Kilkee / Querrin Creek area
Nestling on the shore of the West Clare Peninsula, overlooking the broad Shannon Estuary and the rugged Kerry coastline, lies Querrin Creek. Removed from the stress of everyday life, this luxurious retreat offers sweeping horizons, towering Atlantic skies and the myriad flora and fauna of this E.U. designated Special Area of Conservation.
Located within easy reach of Carrigaholt and Kilkee, the discerning guest will find a wealth of taste and experience in these two very different and very picturesque coastal villages. Sandy beaches, cliff walks, seafood restaurants and traditional pubs abound. Music mingles with turf smoke, guinness complements luscious oysters, and lively conversation imbues the visitor with a sense of belonging and well-being.
Dolphin watch from Carrigaholt, marine activities in the Kilrush Adventure Centre, a nostalgic ‘Percy French’ West Clare Railway excursion, Doonbeg Golf Club, the recently discovered Viking graveyard and the famous Cliffs of Moher, are but a few of the experiences on hand to make a memorable holiday in Querrin Creek.

Our family had a wonderful week at Querrin Creek - the cottage is well equipped, comfortable and very tidy. The location was peaceful and scenic, and not far from town for supplies. We found it an excellent base for exploring the west coast area, with plenty to see and do near the cottage and further afield. Summer evening walks by the estuary were a lovely way to end each day. We enjoyed the house and the area so much we would have happily have stayed on indefinitely. Response: I am delighted that your holiday at Querrin Creek was such a great experience for you and your family. I am also very pleased that you found the cottage comfortable and well equipped. I like my guests to feel 'at home' and have a relaxed stay and glad that you had such a positive experience during your stay. The area is truly lovely and you certainly seem to have enjoyed the many tourist attractions that are on offer. Many thanks. |
