Home description

Two houses each with four bedrooms, fully furnished by interior designer and equipped with cotton sheets, fans and mosquito nets; near to sightseeing, birdwatching, snorkelling, birdwatching, dhow trips and sailing, deep sea fishing, watersports and beaches; some game viewing not far away in Tsavo East. Each House has 4 stylish bedrooms each with an en suite bathroomwith showers not baths, the houses are fully staffed and have excellent cooks (food and drink is not included but the cooks can and will do the shopping). Steps down the coral cliffs lead to a secluded beach. The property perimeter is fenced and tther are two night watchmen.

The Kenyan Coast region

Lovely climate basically all year, swimming and sunbathing are the perfect pastimes from this pretty retreat. It is hotter from Christmas to March than in July, tropical and humid most of the year as on the equator, some rains in April and November. September and October are just perfect! Pale and fine sandy beaches, coral reefs with some snorkelling in the marine parks. Also there are cooks who will do everything, this is a perfect location for anyone who like to do a bit of cooking themselves! Local fisherman come to the door with their catch of tuna, red snapper, crab, shrimps. The local market full of fresh fruit and vegetables is a joy for foodies. The kitchens are newly equipped with gas cookers and all utensils.

Kilifi area

As well as snorkelling there is game fishing available in neaby Watamu and a short drive away are the ancient Arab ruins of Gedi. A haven for bird watchers, see carmine bee eaters in their hundreds up the creek, many close up views of birds roosting at sunset if you take a relaxing dhow trip before supper. The nearby Sokoke forest is a birdwatchers and nature lovers paradise. The local town of Kilifi has all the daily needs in the way of shops and a few good lunch stops. Mailindi an hour away is the perfect shopping for any level of souvenir, artifact or fashionable items. Take a dhow or yacht trip to Takaungu and have a picnic or lunch in the local Italian restaurant ( need to book ). Mailindi and Watamu have a wealth of delicious lunchtime restaurants.

How to get there

Fly to Nairobi and take a connection to Malindi or Mombasa... Mdoroni is situated on the south side of Kilifi Creek looking out at the Indian Ocean. The drive from Mombasa airport is about two hours and the drive from Malindi is about an hour.

This is a large property with two houses for rent, both houses are on the cliff looking out over the Creek. One house The Pink house has two huge double bedrooms both with en suite shower rooms and two bedrooms with single beds ( one with three single beds and one with two single beds, both these rooms also have en suite shower rooms ).
The second house The Makuti House has four double bedrooms but two of these have dressing areas with single beds for a young child to sleep in; 3 bedrooms have en suite shower rooms and 1 has an en suite bathroom.
Each house has it's own spacious and beautifully decorated living and dining areas.

The houses are approached down a long drive with an avenue of red flowering flamboyant trees. The gardens full of shrubs and flowers are well maintained and full of birds and butterflies. The pool is cleaned daily and is surrounded by 9 pool beds with towelling mattresses, there also a large cushioned sunbathing area.
We have many ancient Baobab trees and terraces overflowing with bouganvillea. The swimming from the beach is gorgeous at both low and high tide, at low tide walks up and down the creek are possible.

Further details

Each house has its own staff and cook. Food and drink are not included but the staff will plan your meals and shop for you if you prefer. Your stay can be hosted by a local Kenyan by prior arrangement if you like. Daily "Pirate Safaris" on a sailing boat for young kids are also offered as an extra.
This property has many terraces and open windows, it is not suitable for young children to be left unsupervised.
