The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region

The West Coast of Scotland, Argyll and the Oban area in particular have a wide variety of visitor attractions, from distilleries, castles and museums to an unspoilt natural environment, in which Ballimore Farm Estate is situated.

Throughout the summer Argyll plays host to a large number of Highland Games and a variety of events and festivals: the Cowal Highland Gathering, Tarbert Music Festival, Cowal Fest - Cowal Walking and Arts Festival, the Mull of Kintyre Music Festival and the Islay and Bute Jazz festivals to name but a few. The Seafood Festival in Tarbert, the Mull Rally, the Tiree Wave Classic and the West Highland Yachting Week in Oban are also very popular.

In July - August 2014 the Commonwealth Games take place in Glasgow, which is only a 2 hour drive South of the Farm, giving you the opportunity to visit some of those sporting events on a day out.

Oban is known as the 'Gateway to the Isles' as the town's south pier harbours the ferry terminal with regular ferry services to Mull, Coll, Tiree, Barra, South Uist, Colonsay, Lismore and Islay. From these islands you can travel further afield to Iona, Staffa and to many of the smaller less well known isles. There are many islands that make perfect day trip destinations from Oban and are very popular with our guests.

Kerrera is Oban's closest island neighbour and with a size of six and a half mile long it can be seen from most parts of the town. This island offers a lovely timber shack restaurant with its own ferry service and is the ideal place for a quiet walk or cycle. There are no shops on the island, but there are the well-preserved and wonderfully atmospheric remains of Gylen Castle.

In and around the area of Oban and Lorne there are a large variety of outdoor pursuits that can be undertaken and a number of companies offer a large selection of outdoor and adventure pursuits. From Canoeing and Kayaking, Gorge Walking or Coasteering to fishing, archery, stalking, golf and horse riding there are plenty of exciting activities to do! Most of these activities can be had on our own estate!

In Scotland people have the 'right to roam', which means that you have the right to access most land and inland water including mountains, moorland, woods and forests, grassland, fields, rivers and lochs, coastal areas, most parks and open spaces, golf courses (to cross them); day and night, providing you do so responsibly. This makes it possible to walk just about anywhere and there is certainly plenty of opportunity to do so around our Estate.

During the summer months there are a number of Highland Games taking place in our area:

Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games: Saturday, 7th June 2014

Lorne Highland Games (Oban): Sunday, 22nd June 2014

Luss Highland Games: Saturday, 5th July 2014

Taynuilt Highland Games: Saturday, 19th July 2014

Inveraray Highland Games: Tuesday, 22nd July 2014

Mull Highland Games: Thursday, 24th July 2014

Killin Highland Games: Wednesday, 6th August 2014

Argyllshire Gathering (Oban): Thursday, 28th August 2014
